Default Tip for new users of Office 2007
For those of you daring enough to brave Office 2007 for the first time, here is the first thing you need to know. Set your programs to save files in the 97-2003 format because if you send them to others using the older versions, they will not be able to open them.

To do this:

  • Select the Office Button (located at the top right corner of the screen, is a circle with the Office logo in inside and turns yellow when you cursor over it.
  • At the bottom right you will see a button (using Word as an example) Word Options; select this button
  • Select Save at the left and select Word 97-2003 Document .doc under Save Files in this Format

You will have to do this for every Office program only once. Once you have set these options, the program will remember it.

Yes - so true! When I switched over a few months ago I sent a package of files to more than one client without realizing they were incompatible without having selected that option...fortunately no one was too bothered by it and a quick re-save solved the problem but I never made that mistake again!

It happened to me too; that's how I learned.

Thank you!! I was constantly having two documents for every file I had to send... lol, I think part of it was just dealing with it for me.

Until the whole world embraces Office 2007, I think we are safer to save files down a level
