Default Suggestions please, to learn PhotoShop
Hello,

Most software programs I use for my biz I learned to use when I worked in the corporate venue. Unfortunately, I never had to use PhotoShop before but I would really like to learn.

Other than taking a class at a school, I'm looking for other suggestions to learn PhotoShop. I have a book but I misplaced the tutorial CD. I have to say that the book is a bit complicated and gets into far too much detail than I am looking to do.

Are there any basic online courses or tutorials anyone can recommend?

Thank you.

Janine

This one is next on my list of "things to do when I'm finally not busy".

Lots of resources online and tutorials. Just Google "Photoshop Tutorials" If you want to pay for online learning, there's Lynda.com and many other online resources like this. Usually from using the free lessons these sites provide is enough to get you going. The cost was around $25/month over 2 years ago if you decide to buy into the full training program. It may have gone up a bit by now.

Hi Lily,

Thanks...I'm open to paid and free. I did google and YouTube many of the free (and have spent several hours going through numerous videos) but didn't view anything about just doing basic photo work. Frees were typically 'how tos'...how to do something in particular.

I'll check out that link...much appreciated!

Hi April,

Thank you! Did you take the Lynda class? If so, do you recommend it?

I'm looking for some good recommendations as well. There's so many online courses it is difficult to discern the legitimates.

Janine,

Start with these:
http://www.basicphotoshop.com/basicps.htm

http://sixrevisions.com/graphics-des...ith-photoshop/

http://www.video-tutes.com/Results.p...nel=1026809989

Focus on the desktop tools to start with. This will help you understand what all the tools are used for within Photoshop.

Janine,
Be happy to answer questions. Not an expert by any means but I design all my clients headers so I can usually figure out how to do what you want to do.

I want to do a course too but have decided to go to a physical one rather than online. I am going to use it as an opportunity to network with the other students and lecturer and hopefully pick up some extra pointers.

I would start with learning the www.getpaint.net program. It is the red-headed step-child to Photoshop and is a free program. I learned it first and then translated that learning to photoshop as paint does the same basics and is less complicated to learn. I then added Adobe InDesign to my list of tools to learn!

I took an online photoshop class last year through Longmont Free University for $89. Having learned paint first, the photoshop class was considerably less daunting and InDesign was relatively painless!

Hi Janine,

I had a subscription to Lynda.com for about a year. I highly recommend it. Not only do you have access to PS, but also a lot of other program tutorial training videos, such as Flash, Word, Excel, coding/scripting (php, javascript, etc.), the list goes on. Well worth the membership fee. I had a hard time finding the time to go through a lot of it.

HTH a bit,
