I am getting ready to start selling my first actual digital download type of product. However, until I test the waters on this I would like to find a very inexpensive way to manage the transactions + I want to be able to offer discount coupons. (Yep...I do want my cake and eat it too. )

Ideally I'd like a solution where I don't have to pay a monthly fee for now...and all I want is a button that I'll create which will take the shopper to a shopping cart, and then I guess?? the integration would go through PayPal, for either directly paying from their paypal or using credit cards?

Any recommendations?

I looked at Cashie...but it would appear that their software actually sets up an entire eComm site.

Good luck Pam! Gee I don't even know what a digital download product is... I don't think... I would suggest that if you don't find what you need on the PayPal site - perhaps if you call them they would have some suggestions, so that it would easily integrate.

I offer discounts and gift certificates etc. for services but invoice directly through PayPal so any discounts are taken into account. People who pay through my website already know how much they are going to pay.

I would be really interested in finding out more re this as well. I think we will find this to be a useful thread to a lot of people -- thanks for starting it and please don't forget to let us know what you find out.

If you are using WP try cart66. They have a FREE lite version that integrates with PayPal and allows for both digital downloads and promotions. When you are ready to move to the next step you will only need to upgrade for advanced features. The single pro license is $89.

That may be perfect, especially since my theme promotes it, which then I have more confidence it will be compatible, plus I like the 1 time license fee, plus I love the fact that I could set up a subscription site/membership site, and a support site, which is in my business plan. Lee, thanks for recommending Cart66! I think it will be a lifesaver for me. These last few days I was trying to work with 1ShoppingCart for adding products to my own site. But I found 1SC's basic package to be too limiting and their higher up packages too expensive. This one is perfect! It integrates with things like MailChimp and Gravity Forms which I already use. Not to mention that it works right in Wordpress. And there is only a 1 time fee! I am loving it already.

I have used eShop (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/eshop/) and ZenCart. Depending on what you are looking for you also might be able to set up a simple PayPal buy button right from your PayPal account.

If you are using PayPal you do not really need a shopping cart. Just create a form and use a PayPal button to access the payment gateway. (PayPal has several buttons already created.) You can also use a form creation software to create your form with PayPal integration. A great form tool is JotForm (http://www.jotform.com/). They make PayPal integration really easy.

If you really want a separate shopping cart, a good free one is Zen Cart. Several website hosting companies offer this cart as a free add-on. (http://www.zen-cart.com/)
