PDF Converter Question
Can someone tell me where to get a free or low cost program that will convert at PDF to a Word document that I can then edit? I've seen programs that allow me to convert the PDF to a Word document but then I can't edit the document.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: PDF Converter Question
I've always used Zamzar in the past. Just go to their site, plug in your document and what you'd like it converted to. The converted document comes back to you by email. Make sure you check your junk email folder as sometimes it ends up in there.
A search reveals a number of free convertors that can be downloaded but I'm afraid I've not tried any of them, being a bit leery as a lot of free stuff comes loaded with bugs and spyware.

Re: PDF Converter Question
Try PDF-to-Word or PDFOnline. Both options are free; one is a download and one is an on-line conversion. And to protect against spyware, etc. I would start by downloading AVAST! free anti-virus.

Talk about timing! I received the free download of NuancePDF about an hour after responding to this post! I will be checking into it myself and agree with VAInParadise that it looks like the ticket! I have been using Nuance's Dragon Naturally Speaking for years and am really pleased with their product so have a lot of faith in this newest software being worth while.

Re: PDF Converter Question
Thanks everyone for your help. Goddess, will you please let me know if you can make changes toe Word document once it's been converted from a PDF? That is the problem I'm having. Everything else I've tried will not allow me to make changes to the converted document.
Thanks

Re: PDF Converter Question
Worked like a charm! The document was encrypted and sent online to nuance by the PDF program where it was converted and emailed back to my email address in the format I requested (word 2007) in under a minute. Once received, I quickly did a select-all and formatted the doc to the font I wanted, deleted some text, added some text, and re-saved it as a Word doc. I am really impressed!

Re: PDF Converter Question
Goddess you are wonderful. Thanks to everyone for their help. My client is willing to pay me to retype everything but I think he will be impressed with the cost savings I can present him by having a better way to do it.
I appreciate this forum more than I could possibly tell you all.

Re: PDF Converter Question
Wow, what timing for me, too! Just yesterday I was at a client's office picking up some work and she asked me did I know of a program that would convert PDF to Word and Excel, that she hadn't been able to find anything! So now I get to e-mail her some of these links, and have something new for myself as well!
Oh, speaking of making sure you have virus protection and so forth, I have avast!, my firewall, Malware Bytes and Super Antispyware! (Avast running in the background all the time--resident scanner--and the others I run once a week. One program can't stop everything. And I also set a restore point right before downloading anything.
Can't wait to try out Nuance myself!

Re: PDF Converter Question
Very cool I've never heard of these options. Often times when doing a research project I need to do just this.

Re: PDF Converter Question
The reason that there may be problems in converting from PDF to Word is because sometimes, the PDF file is generated from an image (scanned in) rather than from computer text (Word document). And this means that the software has to make judgment calls about what the text was originally.
At the risk of going down a rabbit trail, if you're having problems printing a PDF document, print it to Adobe Acrobat rather than to an actual printer. It will generate a PDF file from the PDF file (i.e. it will do some cleanup on it), and you'll likely be able to print the new file.
