Default Outlook 2007 Contacts Question
My client wants to search for all contacts in a particular state in the 2007 MS Contacts database. But state is included in the address field. I have poked around and could not find a solution. Any suggestions?

Donna,

There's a couple of ways of doing this, but it depends on the consistency of how the state names are entered in the contacts and what you are doing with it. If you are just looking to categorize (and you were consistent on the state name), you can do a search in contacts. If the state names are typed in different variations, I would recommend that you export the contacts list to an Excel file and process that way.

Thanks, we ended up downloading too many contacts to do the other way. Not very good search options......

I have version 2003, but I use Advanced Find and the Advanced tab to specifiy my criteria. I apply a new category to the search results (select all and use the menu in the Find window to apply a category) then copy those contacts into a new subfolder of my Contacts folder. From there, I can use them or export them out. Yes, the contacts are duplicated but I usually delete the folder after I'm done with the current task and recreate one again when needed.
I don't have access to 2007 at this moment but it may work the same. I use Business Contact Manager with Outlook 2007 for a client and I use the search folders in BCM and it works wonderfully. I'll test my steps in 2007 and post my results in case anyone else runs into this.
