Default Office 2003 & 2007 on the same computer?
Good morning,

I'm wondering if anyone has done this successfully. I seem to recall reading that there can be issues in running MS Office 2003 and 2007 on the same machine. Here's my problem:

My desktop and 2 laptops run 2003. The desktop fried and I bought another. On loading MS Office on the new desktop I discovered it had installed 2003 and 2007 (which I didn't know I had ... doh!). For ease of use I'm considering keeping 2003 on the desktop, which I use all the time, and installing 2007 on the better laptop, connecting both to the Internet with a router as I currently have no need for a wireless setup.

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much.

Lynne

as long as the documents are saved in .doc or you use the compatibilty pack for 2007 you should be fine with one on one computer and the other on the other computer. I am not sure if they can actually both really be loaded on the system, unless you have a partitioned hard drive. It might just look like they are both loaded on the computer

The only issue would be Outlook. You can't have more than one version on the same computer.

I agree with StaceyStahl. It will work, but it can cause you issues when and if you start running different documents under the different formats. The compatability pack is the easier way to go.

Thank you all for your input. I've decided to stick with 2003 on the desktop and one laptop, loading 2007 on the other laptop should I need it in future. I removed 2007 from the desktop, but then Outlook 2003 wouldn't co-operate. Changed MSmapi32.DLL to MSmapi.old and it worked like a charm.

For 2011 I'm going to be using an external hard drive for backup and working with an 8gb flash drive so I have everything to work with on any computer, anywhere, any time.

Oh the joys (and frustrations) of technology!
