Default iPhone apps for dictation
I know I've seen this topic before somewhere - I've tried looking back through and just can't find it. I also spent so much time Googling it, but I haven't found anything helpful. Arg.

I'm trying to find out if there is an app for iPhones that can be used to record (dictate) notes, meetings, etc., that has the option to save the file as an MP3, WAV, WMA or something similar for downloading (or uploading??) to Dropbox (or emailed) so that I can then transcribe it.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I really appreciate any ideas and tips on this . Thank you so much!

Try this:
Pocket Dictate is a voice recorder for iPhone. Dictate directly on your phone, then tap send and the recorded dictation will be compressed, encrypted and sent to your typist by email automatically. http://www.nch.com.au/pocket/index.html

Or this: Pocket Dictate is a voice recorder for iPhone and palm sized Windows CE devices. You dictate directly on your device using the controls. When done, tap send and the dictation will be compressed and sent to your typist by email automatically.

Or this: Dragon Dictation http://www.dragonmobileapps.com/appl...tion_demo.html

Excellent link. I have just downloaded from Itunes (free!). Great tool. I have been concerned about persuading small business/business start up clients who are unaccustomed to dictation to purchase equipment, to use my services. I think I now have the answer. Thanks.

You're welcome. I'm glad that I could help. Transcription will be one of the services that I offer when my business "goes live," and an IPhone is on my list of purchases. Please post your opinions after you use whatever you have decided on.

When I was looking around for an iPhone app to recommend to my client, I was mostly interested in the file format he would be sending me. I wanted to make sure that my transcription software was compatible with the type of file I would be receiving. After checking around, I found that there are also options for converting file formats if need be. I found a few options, just need to check if audio quality is affected when converting formats (that's never a good thing).

PocketDictate will send the recording as a wav file, which works with most transcription software.

I'll let you know what I've decided on -- thank you again!

I just wanted to update anyone who is interested in iPhone apps for dictation/transcription purposes.

My client and I have been giving PocketDictate a test run this week, and it seems that he is becoming quite addicted to sending me notes, letters, and emails to transcribe. It's so easy to use, and the sound quality is excellent (as long as the person isn't on a subway or busy coffee shop that is -- yikes!).

If you use this app with a client, ask them to please use the wav format when sending it to you. There's an option for a dct file format, but I'm not sure about that one.

Give it a try -- it's a great way to add extra services to your business and it frees up your client's time as well. Win-win!

I have been testing it myself also today Patty. Haven't done any transcriptions yet but have been recording, notes, memos and correspondence (slightly addicted too). Finding user friendly and accessible. Thanks again.
