Default How Do I Transfer Photos From Desktop to Laptop?
Hello,

I am working on a Power Point presentation for my church annual singles retreat. I have several photos saved on my desktop computer and I would like to transfer them to my laptop so I can take the laptop to the retreat.

The CD drive on my laptop does not work.

Does anyone know how I can do this?

Use DropBox. It is a free program up to 2gb. If you install the program on both your desktop and your laptop you can drag the photos into the dropbox and they will automatically be on your laptop. You can also put them on a flash drive.

I love DropBox! I have a client in England and her database is a large pivot table - too big for google docs. This keeps us from emailing it and changing date in name and making sure you are working in the latest version...

As Lisa mentioned too, my first thought was to just use a USB flash drive. They're not that expensive - I have a 2GB one & it stores plenty for transferring purposes.

Thanks everyone for the helpful information, I will purchase a flash drive and look into drop box. This is the best site I have found for VA's, everyone is so willing to help out a fellow VA.

Have a great night

Lisa,

Thanks for the information about Dropbox, I just watched a video explaining how it works and I love it. My laptop is very old and the CD drive nor the internet work, so a flash drive will work best for this project, but I definitely plan to use drop box on future projects.

I normally use a USB and transfer from that, but I'm definitely going to look into Dropbox. Thanks for the suggestion.

I just use the shared folders as all household computers are networked, but "dropbox" sounds like a great way to share files with clients. Thanks Lisa.

Cheers!!

I have a network cable that goes directly for my PC to my laptop to help with transfering anything that's of any size between the two.

Email it to yourself.
Use a free, web based email address and log in anywhere that has an Internet connection (ie: Yahoo!, et cetera). All images should be optimized (made download friendly) before they go onto a website anyway so they should be quick and easy to send via email.
Emailing things to yourself at a free, web based email also means they will be there if you ever need them no matter where you are.

Use a thumb drive.
Thumb drives are $5.00 on a good sale - or $15-20 normally. Hint: get a bigger thumb drive rather than a small one so it does not become obsolete (they will only be a few dollars different in price). Try and get a thumb drive that has a cap that cannot be lost (some are 'attached').
