Indxr is designed for MS Word. When you create a table of contents, table of figures, index, etc. you have to insert into the document
where all of these items are located. In other words, you have to add 'code' for MS Word to be able to generate the TOC or Index. Ex:
CHAPTER ONE
What is Motivational Interviewing
INTRODUCTION
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a style of communicating that helps people to explore and resolve ambivalence about changing specific, maladaptive behaviors.
Becomes
CHAPTER ONE{∙TC∙"CHAPTER∙ONE∙-∙What is Motivational Interviewing?" ∙\f∙C∙\I∙"1"∙}{∙XE∙"CHAPTER ONE"∙}
What is Motivational Interviewing{∙XE∙"Motivational Interviewing"∙}?
INTRODUCTION{∙TC∙"Introduction"∙"∙\f∙C∙\I∙ "2"∙}{∙XE∙"Introduction"∙}
Motivational Interviewing {∙XE∙"Motivational Interviewing"∙} (MI) is a style of communicating {∙XE∙"communicating"∙}that helps people to explore and resolve ambivalence {∙XE∙"ambivalence"∙}about changing specific, maladaptive behaviors{∙XE∙"maladaptive behaviors"∙}.
The TC codes are for the Table of Contents - to add these, highlight the word(s) you want in the TOC and press ALT-SHFT-O to open the coding box. The XE codes are for the index. You will still have to hand-pick and code the TOC, BUT the indexing code is done FOR you by Indxr.
When you consider that ALMOST EVERY SINGLE WORD in your document has to be SELECTED BY HAND for both the TOC and the Index, you can see how incredibly time consuming (not to mention boring

) it is to code these docs. And, of course, the bigger the doc, the longer the time it takes.
So, as I said, you STILL need to select and code the TOC by hand BUT - Indxr will enter ALL of the XE codes for you in a matter of minutes. Then, you simply go through and clean up the coding rather than building it from scratch. Awesome, eh?
