Default Dropbox Issue
I had Dropbox on my laptop and my iPhone. I installed it on another computer today and everything was fine. I saw all my folders and files. I installed it on another computer and everything was empty - no folders and no files. I checked the other installs and they are all empty too.

It's not the biggest deal because I really didn't have anything important in there yet but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Seems really odd to me.

That has never happened to me, and I use drop box like no ones business. Have you contacted them to see what it might be about?

No, I figured I'd check here first to see if anyone had an issue.

I'm wondering how you installed it? Did you send yourself an invite at a different email address, or simply just installed it onto another computer? I'm thinking that in doing that, and the folder was empty, it just deleted what you had online, thinking the 'new' folder was the update? Just a guess.

I didn't know about invites. I just installed it and said I already had an account. I did the same on both computers today. This only happened when I installed it on the second one. The first was fine.

I put in a support ticket and it was responded to immediately! Great customer service! All my files were restored. I responded to ask why this happened and I hope I get an answer so that it doesn't happen again.

The official response is: I can't tell the exact event, but it looks like that Dropbox folder was either renamed/moved via a drag and drop/or became missing for some other reason. So it looked to the Dropbox software like you deleted all your files.

So I guess I'll never know exactly why but I cannot believe the excellent customer service!! I will recommend this product to anyone who will listen!!!! Go Dropbox!!!!!

I think it was as I said - installing on another computer, rather than sending an invitation to it. It probably saw the folder as now being empty.

I just thought I'd add a quick little note here in support of Dropbox.

Dropbox has been an absolute godsend to me. I am such a non-tech person and quickly needed to have a tool for a client to send me a large amount of audio files. Dropbox was so easy to get started with and it was so easy to have my client share files with me. And being the non-tech person that I am, I even contacted them, and like you, they responded literally in minutes.

I am a true Dropbox supporter. I love it!

I love it too. I use it to share files with my church office - I do their photography for them. Also my local council - again I've been doing photography for them. The files are big so this saves zipping and emailing. I also joined Dropbox first off because of their excellent photo gallery set up but use it as back up for my work files too.
