Default Dictation Software
Does anyone have any recommendations for digital transcription software? I've been looking at Express Dictate which I can get on a free trial and then pay to use. Any other good programs out there?

Many thanks!

Hi, I don't have a specific recommendation but wanted to post a link for you to the Transcription topic section here on the site, you might find some info there. Hope it helps a bit!

Are you looking for transcription or dictation software? I use Express Scribe to transcribe, which is a free program. Express Dictate is probably from the same company. I have also used some of their other programs, such as the one that converts audio from one format to another.

Yes, Express Dictate is for dictating, and Express Scribe is for transcribing. The great thing about Express Scribe is it makes it very easy to add in time codes (which normally can be a pain).

There is another transcription/dictation software by Philips called Speech Exec Transcribe which doesn't have the great time stamping feature, but I love it because its sound is so much better.

Express Scribe is free to download, but I'm not sure if Speech Exec is. I have a Philips foot pedal, which is how I stumbled across their software:
Express Scribe
Speech Exec Transcribe

I know that Express Scribe is by far the most popular with most transcribers.

Good luck and don't hesitate to ask any questions on either of these two programs. I use them every day!

I use Express Scribe mainly but also purchased Start Stop many moons ago which is a great backup as ES doesn't like all file types...

Patty - I guess my real question is, what do your clients use to send you their files to transcribe? Express Scribe looks great, but do my clients have to purchase Express Dictate, at $70, in order to send me their jobs - that's what I'm not clear on.

Again, grateful for any advice!
