Default DATABASE - FileMakerPro 11 for mac
I've always used Excel for database management and came upon FileMakerPro 11 for the mac. Has anyone used this software, and if so, what do you like about it please?

I haven't used it, I would stick with Excel it is widely used on all platforms. Thats just my opinion however.

Great! I appreciate your insight because I thought I might have to use a professional software that only dealt with databases since I was now offering the service. I like your opinion and it will be interesting to see if others agree or not. Thank you!

I've used FilemakerPro but only for database management, I've not designed or created a database from it. It is similar to Access, if you have used that, and it is easy to export information (to .cvs or .tab). I've not done a wholesale import to it, I've only added or duplicated records.

Is there something in particular you think you might need it for?

I have used an older version of FileMaker Pro (for PC) for years. It is a great little program and is relatively simple to use. I also use MS Access, but FMP is a little easier to use for a database novice.

Good Luck

thanks, Nicola! Good information...I will be using it for my clients who need this service. Inputting their contact information and adding notes to each contact, e.g., when the contact was added to the database, last contact with the 'contact in the database', etc.

Thanks, Julie! it's good to know that there are others out there using this program and that the program also runs on a PC.

Filemaker can automatically date when a record was created and when it was altered which saves time. You can have a searchable notes section too.

If you are offering database management as a service then do look into both FilemakerPro and Access. I have Access as it comes with Office Pro 2010 so I wouldn't buy Filemaker unless I had a specific client who used it and then they could probably buy an additional license for me.

I am so old fashion that I did not realize that there was such a software available. I have been using Excel and Access for so long it did not dawn on me to try something different. I'm stuck on YouTube now looking at the Getting Started for FileMaker. Thanks for the wonderful tips.

Unfortunately for me I have MAC and Access is not available to the Mac. So I think for now I will be using excel.

Thanks everyone!

I have used FMP for Mac for many years. It is quite simple to learn and I like the fact that you can create all sorts of databases and forms. Several years ago, I used it for my invoices, statements, etc. It does have the ability to save records into a format for Access or Excel.
