A client of mine who currently has a small client database is in need of good management of tracking the customer data. He really would like to use Excel however I can't help but wonder if he's better off to find something that was created for that specific need.

Is there anyone here that works with customer relationship records in Excel and do you have a template you'd be willing to share. Or should we look for a package that will work for a small business.

I've done CRM work in Excel and it becomes time consuming once the client's list begins to grow. It can be done, however, I would lean towards recommending a CRM solution to your client. There are several on the market including sugarcrm, and allclients to name a few.

This client is very adimate about trying to use the tools we have but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Any ideas where to find a template?

Did you try Microsoft's website for Excel, they have templates for almost every scenario. Good luck!

I agree Excel gets old quick. I ended up moving a client to one of 37 Signals products because after about 100 contacts and them trying to keep notes in the sucker, it just became too much.

There are a ton of online solutions that work for around 20.00 a month. You can also hunt up an access DB and use that.
