Cool computer desktop organizing software
I found this computer desktop organizing software because, well, my desktop was getting way out of control! http://www.berokyo.com/win/en/index.html

I have got to say, this is great software! I actually created two "cabinets" - one for regular desktop items and one for links (for links and items in the desktop items, it shows a little screenshot, which is way cool). The regular cabinet is off to the right and hides when not in use, the links cabinet is off to the left and also hides when not in use. I'm still dinking around with it adding categories, dragging and dropping, etc., but it is so nice to actually SEE my desktop again!

All that is on my desktop, besides the normal "required" icons/folders, is a folder that I named "desktop items" and another named "links" per instructions for the software (you move the respective shortcuts on your desktop to their respective folders before installing the software). It did take me about three install/uninstalls to get the concept of creating the two folders and how that works. You don't delete the folders on your desktop because Berokyo doesn't save copies of them in the cabinets - they are linked. If you delete the folders on the desktop, they are gone forever (and they won't work in the cabinet(s) either).

Now when I find a site that I like, I save the link to my 'links' folder, then drag it to the appropriate area of my links cabinet (although not sure yet, but they may just populate the cabinet themselves [I'm impatient, so just moved them ]). Cool!

It is customizable, too, which I like; skin, size, click once or twice to open an item, etc.

It says the software is $9.50 (50% savings right now), but not sure when you pay that because I downloaded it, have it running, and no messages about paying within a certain amount of time. It is well worth the regular price, let alone the half-off price, so I'll gladly pay when I need to (or even if I don't need to!)!

Nope, no affiliation or compensation regarding this software - I just love it! It helps in my quest to be more organized.

Okay, after trying out this software, I found that it was irritating the heck out of me when scrolling on websites - it would pop out and get in the way. I decided not to purchase it.

So what to do to clean up my desktop? It was pretty darn simple actually, and I don't know why I didn't think of it before. Duh.

First, I right clicked on my Taskbar > Toolbars > enabled Desktop by clicking on it to put a check mark beside it. Second, I right clicked on my desktop > Arrange Icons By > disabled Show Desktop by clicking on it to remove the check mark next to it.

Voila! A nice, clean desktop!! Now I just access all my desktop items from the taskbar in a nice 'n tidy list. Awesome!

Sorry, it's the little things in life that can really get me excited.

Jules,

Entropy, that's the physics law about everything having a tendency of going to disorder and it takes WORK to keep things aligned. I find that I am always putting things back in order, including my desktop, Screen and otherwise!!

Like you I've installed, then deleted a program when it didn't deliver in the way I needed it to.

Cheers!!

Oy. Yes, if only my "otherwise" desktop was as organized as my screen "desktop" is now! I do know where everything is though, even if semi-to-mostly-organized.

Cheers back at ya, Bernice!

If you want a good desktop organizer, try fences by Stardock. Here is the description:

Fences is a one-of-a-kind program, allowing you to draw labeled shaded areas on your desktop, which become movable & resizable containers for your desktop icons. These groups can help bring organization and consistency to your computer's desktop, solving the "constant mess" problem that has plagued the desktop since its inception.

I have been using this free program for quite a while and my desktop is organized in way that is easy for me to access everything I need. You can also double click on your desktop to hide everything. I usually do this when sharing my desktop with someone.

Great program, Lee! But of course I downloaded it and installed. I like how you can choose what containers you want to show all the time. Double click and the rest are hidden. AWESOME!!

Thank you!
