Default Central Desktop Yes or No?
I have been looking into Central Desktop as an option. Anyone familiar with it?
Good or bad experiences?

I have used the system.

I tried the free version of it to see if it would fit my needs. The only caution is, determine early if you want to continue using the software. It will lock you out and all your project information locked in if you go over 100 activities in a month's time. Of course, your information will remain on their server until the 1st of the following month under the free plan or unless you pay for the upgrade version. Then your information is released immediately.

Otherwise, very user friendly. I love how the milestones work in line with the tasks. It keeps you on point per project. You can pull up outside files and attach them to the corresponding project. Other bells and whistles. Not to bad for a project management program if you have a lot to keep up with.

Hope this helps.

I've never heard of Central Desktop, but have played with Officezilla which seems to do all the same things. It has space for files, calendars, blogs and forums and all sorts of project management. You can manage it so that client A can only see those items that you have given them permission to see. So even if you have information that belongs to 5 other clients, they can only see what you allow them to.

You can add your logo etc to brand it as your site and send emails to your 'team'. I'm haven't delved too deeply (another thing on the To Do List!) but it seems useful and it's free - bonus!

I also use OnStage Project Management Portal, which is free for up to 20 projects and/or 20 Gb (from memory). I've set up projects for each client and they upload files, send emails etc. There is also a calendar option in there but I haven't had to use that.

Everyone has a personal preference on how they like to get organised and there are so many options out there these days, so good luck!

Hi Victoria,

I have used Central Desktop extensively with one of my clients. I have found it to be extremely user friendly, easy to add/delete/complete tasks, manage workspaces, customize workspaces and more.

Also, if I ever had a technical issue, I emailed their support (through the Central Desktop system) and always got a response the very same day. My experience with it has been positive. Now, in terms of cost, if you are just starting out, I would give it a test run (Looks like you can do a 30 day free trial) see if you like it.

There are apparently free project management resources out there that may work just as well. A few were noted here and I just read about another one in a thread on VAF called Project Pier http://tinyurl.com/6oqsy8.
