Default Adobe InDesign...your input?
Has anyone used this? Is it worth it or is there a similar version that won't cost me $399?

Also interested to know about GiftMaker Pro which appears to be some kind of customer relations management system...I would appreciate your input on this one also.

Thanks,
Brandy

InDesign is a great and best (i think) software to design single or multi page documents like brochure, book, magazine etc. But its a professional software for designers. I am using it more than 3 years.

no idea about giftmaker pro...

I haven't used InDesign, but have heard great things about it and will probably download the free trial to try.

Here is a thread that has links to some online software stores that offer academic discounts. You may qualify if you are taking classes or if you have a child in school.

Also, take a look at this blog post for create online or affordable resources.

I love design, but I am also a Adobe girl. I was trained on both Quark and InDesign and the latter is the better choice.

If you are just starting out you may not want to invest in something like Indesign, unless your clients are using it. I find most of the design work I do on flyers and like things can be done quiet well with Publisher or open source software.

Plus, if you are going to drop the $$ for the big kids' programs you should take a few classes on using it.

I was trained with PageMaker 6.5 at a previous position. I've only upgraded once but find the program still does all I need it to. As of this point, I have no need to upgrade to Indesign. I'm not a graphic artist so I don't use a large percentage of the software's capabilities.

This is an old post that I thought I'd bring back to life.

I'm considering InDesign because I am writing more downloadable docs for clients that I want to look more professional.

Any new opinions on InDesign and if it is a complicated piece of software (or not)?

Thanks,
Janine

I worked for a printing company for a year using Pagemaker and later Indesign. Indesign is a complicated piece of software but well worth it for designing professional looking flyers, newsletters, brochures, etc. Especially useful if you're creating/submitting camera ready files to a print shop. Very powerful program but will require time to learn and $$ to buy.

I love InDesign and it is easy to use - especially if you are familiar with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I've used it for professional looking ads, flyers and newsletters.
