Re: Phone Service with No Land Line
I use Google Voice for my business number. It's on my cell phone and I have a custom message that I change up every couple weeks. I don't answer the phone if I'm working, business or personal. That's what voice mail is for.
I've only got two potential clients right now, but when talking to friends and colleagues I asked how many would be bothered by getting a message, as long as I'm clear upfront about my policy, there are other, better ways to reach me quickly. Not one, including the CEO of a Fortune 500 co (my husband's employer) had a problem with it. In fact, most said they didn't like wasting time on calls unless they were scheduled.
I've never felt obligated to answer the phone if I'm busy. I used to take call for a previous employer (eye doctor) a couple times a year. I just forwarded the office phone to my cell and answered all calls as if I was the business if the number came up unknown. No one new any different. So if the extra $$ isn't in the cards, or a free service doesn't work and you want to sound professional, answer as your business, and don't tell people it's your personal number.
