I just started using TIME DOCTOR because I read an article about a few weeks ago on how it helps productivity and time management. And so far so good, I like the improvement it caused.

You should always track your time for the actual time you put in for the work you do on a project. Some smart phones you can download an app that you can track your hours. You can also opt to track them in Excel, but either way you should always be ethical.

Thanks everyone! Gonna give Time Stamp a try. I agree about the ethics of giving the correct time. In our line of work, and with the amount of confidentiality it requires, that should be a given. : )

I currently use ronin to calculate the invoice for my clients but some clients are asking for itemized details of your tasks...what do you guys feel about this?

Hey Tess:

I know your post was from few years ago but I had to respond to say thank you and you're absolutely right. It is our responsibility to be honest and fair with our clients. I know that just getting started there is a learning curve as to how long things will take and we can't charge the client for inefficient time use. I think logging time honestly is the most accurate way. Thanks for your post. Deanna

Thank you for this question. I too am just starting out and trying to get everything in order before Oct. 1st for my first client.

All of the comments confirmed to me that I was on the right track. I believe in giving my clients honest work and these comments gave me a direction.

I use Actitime, it gives me a professional service, and is FREE, All is crystal clear and the back up support is brilliant.
Well recommended by me!

I agree that gaining your client's trust is very important but i guess it's also relevant that we become transparent with the work that we do for them. This gives them confidence that an actual work is being done. Of course, it has to be coupled with great results towards the end. I worked with a staffing agency once and they keep track of time through the software called hubstaff. It keeps a screenshot of your activity and track your work hours. It does not seem to affect my work at all. I am a graphic designer and i love showing my clients my drafts while I'm doing the work - so hubstaff does that for me .. I think other graphic designers will benefit from this article i found online -
