Default Your Facebook page or Twitter
I couple questions concerning Facebook and Twitter:

Which do you consider more important or better marketing for your business, updating your Facebook page on a regular basis or trying to keep up with Twitter?

Do you post the same information to both accounts?

And do you post from Facebook page to Twitter or from Twitter to Facebook?(hope that makes sense)

Interested in everyone's opinions and links to good articles on the subject.

Thanks

Which is most important somewhat depends on which one you prefer. If you prefer one over the other, then that's what you should go with as your enthusiasm for that platform will easily come through. I find that both have their advantages not only for marketing and networking but also for SEO.

I do not typically post the same information to both as I think that's redundant and goes against the idea of being "social." I also don't have it auto set up for posts from Facebook going to Twitter or vice versa. For the same reason...they are two different platforms that operate differently and people who see your post from Facebook on Twitter aren't necessarily going to have the right context. As well as posts from Twitter don't generally lend themselves well as an update from Twitter. Plus if you are prolific tweeter then this gets overwhelming for your friends/fans on Facebook. Sometimes there is value in shooting an update from Twitter to FB using something like Hootsuite but I find I use that more for convenience than for auto updating everything or scheduling a bunch of tweets to FB.

I do have some clients who do have it set up so FB posts go directly to Twitter and it works okay because those clients are putting in updates that ask questions or that are conversational enough to elicit good responses from either platform.

All that said, I think is some value in scheduling tweets or updates as way to help keep the account current and to help with some of time management involved in using social media. I don't think, though, that this should be the ONLY way that the accounts are updated.

Thanks Kimberly, that was exactly the kind of response I was looking for.

I agree with you on the auto updates, I don't have that set up on either account. I was thinking of setting it up so that Facebook pages would auto update Twitter but I'm still undecided. I do use Hootsuite and have been posting some of the same links to Twitter and Facebook from there, but based on what you've said I think I'll keep that to a minimum.

I suppose as you said I need to find which platform I'm more comfortable with and that I want to concentrate more on. With all the information out there and everyone having a different opinion, I get confused on which is the best way to go ut:

I'd still be interested in how other's use both?

I'm with Kimberly on not posting the same thing on Twitter and Facebook - I do follow some people on both, and sometimes get annoyed at reading the same thing more than once. Occasionally there is a good reason to post the same thing on both, but that is the exception.

However - the past couple of months have seen some great changes in my life, to the point that I've hardly posted on either one. I've been using Hootsuite to set up fan page posts for clients, and I'm trying to start putting some on there for me. I'm thinking of having them go to Twitter as well, simply to have a bit of activity on the account. If I decide to go back to using Twitter more, I can always stop the duplicates.

I've always used Twitter more for conversations with other people, for retweeting, things like that. I would not want all my tweets going to my fan page wall. I think it would be too much!

With all the changes I have going on, I'm still trying to decide how I want to use Twitter and Facebook - what can I realistically commit to that will help my business. Right now, I'm putting more time and energy into making sure my clients pages and accounts are well maintained - hopefully that will show any prospective clients what I can do on those two sites.

As far as your business goes, you could try doing different things on the two, or try focusing on one for a few weeks, then the other and see which you prefer, which gives better results, which fits your schedule best. Hmmm - maybe I need to try the same thing!

Good luck!!

Thanks Gladys I appreciate the feedback. I had a similar situation with changes going on that kept me from concentrating on my business as much as I would have liked.

I like your suggestion of maybe focusing on one more than the other to determine which I'm more comfortable with and seems to give better results.

I've had both a Facebook page and Twitter account for awhile now but since I haven't put the effort in that I should have before now, I feel like I have to learn the ropes all over again LOL

I have TweetDeck running nearly all the time and will check in and post something throughout the day when I'm between tasks. Depending what I'm saying, I may post the same thing on Facebook and/or LinkedIn as well. I generally try to stay off Facebook during work hours as there are just too many distractions there, but I usually go on at the end of the day.
