Default Are you "Twitter-ing"?
Just wondering if any of you are on Twitter and what you think of it? I've played around with it here and there, have a few people following me and I'm following a few others. I'm not exactly sure I see the benefit of it yet from a marketing standpoint.

For those who don't know, Twitter is kind of like text messaging on the internet. You can send updates on what you're doing throughout your day, and the people who are following you will get the message. You're only allowed 140 characters in your messages. You can also use Twitter from your cell phone and send and receive your updates there.

I did read an interesting article about businesses asking for proposals via Twitter. Since you only have a very small, limited amount of characters, you really have to choose your marketing message carefully and cut out all the unnecessary stuff. That's something I've been thinking about for awhile - if I were to send a Twitter proposal to someone, how would I phrase what I do in that small amount of space. Makes a 30 second elevator speech seem long-winded!

Something to think about - what would your Twitter proposals to prospective clients be if you only had 140 characters to sell yourself. Post your replies!

I am but am still just getting my head around it. http://twitter.com/kathiemt

I've recently discovered Twitterfeed.com and I think I now understand how I can get sensible things on my twitter entries, rather than what I was doing in the past 5 minutes.

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts about Twitter or chat based properties such as Twitter. I can see someone just getting overwhelmed in keeping up with the snowballing effect of that type of "machine" would have. I don't know that I'd get anything else accomplished.

As far as Eve's question/comment about coming up with a "commercial-like" proposal to send through Twitter... I guess I would have to know more about who/where the request was coming from and then try to "customize" my "marketing" to them. Target marketing and Target Proposals. If they were from a real estate background vs. a catering background vs. a small legal firm. Those "highlighted" points may all be different.

Just a thought

I created a twitter account, but have yet to post anything. I still have to figure out a way to post something in just 140 words. I have some ideas, and will be twittering very soon!

I have had my Twitter account for quite a while now, and have only started to really use it about 6 months ago... I love it, and it keeps me in contact with other VAs as I am working away at my computer...

Sometimes the shortest sentence says more than a full paragraph!

I use Twitter. At first I thought it looked pretty useless and after starting my account it went unused for weeks. Then my editor at Home Office Warrior mentioned that he was 'tweeting' whenever he posted a new article to the magazine. I thought that was a rather cool idea, so I began doing the same thing. Then I started adding people that interested me, like eMom and Erin Blaskie. Lo and behold, people started adding me as well, giving me new people to follow...and network with.
I 'tweet' both general "this is what I'm doing" and business related tweets. I've found some really exceptional business content through other peoples tweets and twitters and I've seen an increase in hits on my website, blog and my articles on Home Office Warrior.
Amazing how something that I initially thought was useless has really become a powerful networking tool, huh?
