Default You now "Like" Pages on Facebook and not "Fan" them
The change is here and now you will "like" a page instead of "fanning" it.
Here is some information from FB about the changes:

Why did "Become a Fan" change to "Like"?
To improve your experience and promote consistency across the site, we've changed the language for Pages from "Fan" to "Like." We believe this change offers you a more light-weight and standard way to connect with people, things and topics in which you are interested.
What does it mean to "Like" a Page?
When you click "Like" on a Page, you are making a connection to that Page. The Page will be displayed in your profile, and in turn, you will be displayed on the Page as a person who likes that Page. The Page will also be able to post content into your News Feed.
Can I still "Like" a News Feed story about my friends Liking Pages?
No. When you see a Feed story about a friend Liking a Page, there will be no feedback links below that story. However, if you hover over the Page name, you will see a small preview of the Page and the number of other people who have also Liked that Page. You can then Like that Page to add it to your profile, or you can click through to the Page itself.
Is there a difference between "Liking" an item a friend posts and "Liking" a Page?
Yes. Liking a Page means you are connecting to that Page. When you connect to a Page, it will appear in your profile and you will appear on the Page as a person who likes that Page. The Page will also be able to post content into your News Feed.
On the other hand, when you click "Like" on a piece of content that a friend posts, you are simply letting your friend know that you like it without leaving a comment.
What is your opinion of the change?

Thanks Rebecca for this information, it is very helpful to me that you break this down as I find Facebook a little bit hard to work with.

Thank you Rebecca, my challenge to myself for 2010 is to get VERY familiar and comfortable with Facebook so I appreciate the way you broke this new information down. Much appreciated!

You are welcome, Tess. I have found that the more you know the less scared you are.

I'm not sure if I "like" that change... at least not yet. As someone who just started a Fan Page and is in the process of suggesting that people become fans, it seems awkward to ask people to "like" me instead of "become a fan." I guess it will all end up with the same result in the end.

Facebook said that you can keep the phrase "Fan Me on Facebook". They have suggested "Follow Me on Facebook" and "Like Me on Facebook". I am keeping all my clients and my stuff at "Become My Fan" because it is what everyone is used to. Later when the change is settled in with more people, I will look at changing it, but for now, it is fine for me.

I agree Mary. While I haven't created a fan page yet it does seem awkward - asking someone to become a fan is different than asking someone to like you. Perhaps they could have come up with a better term?

I think they should have left it alone. I see their reasoning. People will "like' something before they "become a fan" sometimes. Liking something is easier then becoming a fan sometimes. But I liked being a fan of certain things.

It's interesting and I'm not sure yet if I like it - I don't have enough fans, or post enough, for it to make a difference to me. There is a post on Mashable that I skimmed where the jist seems to be that FB has "studies" that people will click "Like" 2 times more than they will "Become A Fan". One theory is that it is another Facebook tactic to drive more advertising at you because you will click in easier now. I think we are watching social media grow and flex the power and access they are realizing that they have. I guess we stay tuned....

I just got finished reading about this on FB before coming over here. No, I don't like it. Seems as soon as I get used to--but not necessarily liking--a change FB has made, they make another one. As far as my clicking more on "like" rather than "become a fan," I don't see a difference for what I would do. But it feels weird asking people to "like my business page." I guess technically we can't call them fan pages anymore either. Oh, well.
