Hi Megan - as a very recent tweeter, and still not absolutely sure what I'm doing, I would definitely say that it is worthwhile. I've just found my first client through Twitter. I do think it's a bit like anything though - you have to invest the time to reap the rewards. In fact, I'm just off to check Twitter etiquette because I'm sure that I'm doing lots of things wrong.
At first, I found Twitter very confusing with people twitterring left, right and centre.
There are a couple of applications that I find particularly useful:
Tweetdeck which I use all the time allows you to manage conversations and create groups. I have created a VA group, for instance, which keeps me up to date with people I am following from VAF.
The other one that I use regularly is
Twitulater - which categorises tweets from the people you're following into 11 different categories.
Hope this helps you decide.
