Default True Tales Of Finding Clients On Twitter - Forbes (blog)

True Tales Of Twitter As A Business Tool
Forbes (blog)

Using Mojo To Stand Out From Thousands To Land Clients

I used to use an app called Tweetbeep to track keywords that are tweeted (it seems to have gone up in smoke now though) and when I was starting out I would track “Virtual Assistant” (my profession). I replied to a tweet that was caught by the service and she hired me straight away – the biggest reason is that I was easy to chat with, straight forward, and didn’t have 10,000 forms for her to fill out!

I think a mistake that some VA’s make is asking the client/potential client to do sooooo much work up front. No entrepreneur has that time – that’s why they’re looking for a VA! Basically, she liked my mojo and how I stood out from the thousands of other VA’s on twitter…which is no small feat!

How can you get started finding real paying work on Twitter?

Here are some of the tips I share with my clients to really get them thinking. Of course it depends on what you’re after but there are a wealth of opportunities out there just waiting to be grasped.

Start by searching on Twitter

I’d suggest looking at search.twitter.com on a daily basis and typing in keywords and hastags to see what people are talking about. For example you’re a PR consultant looking to work with new clients.

1. Type in #propportunities #prhelp #mediahelp as examples of...

This was a really neat article to read, I love hearing stories of people finding clients directly on Twitter or sites like VAF...

Has anyone else landed a client on Twitter? Care to share your story?

Yes, I've landed a couple.

My first was via a blog post that a follower retweeted and one of his followers happened to be in the market for a transcriber. The following day I was doing work for the new client - and still do to this day.

The second was more recently and thanks to my 40 tips for using twitter effectively blog post (which had so many retweets I'm still in shock! ) - again someone saw it, looked me up and is now sending me regular work.

I've also had other bits and pieces from twitter friends.

I love twitter, it's my favourite social media tool and I'd advocate its use to all VAs.

I have not gained any clients through Twitter, at least not yet!

I am still kind of new to the whole Twitter thing but definitely see how it can positively impact a small business.

Congratulations Bridie, can't wait to hear from others who have had the same experience.

I have not tried Twitter yet, but definitely will after reading the suggested blog and listening to what you've all had to say.

This is a great article. I noticed when I gave a few clients paperwork they basically blew me off. The ones where my welcome pack was simple. I kept em around.

I think I will go ahead and give twitter a try first thing ( when I decide on my name )

I can't say I've gained a client via Twitter but our company has hired at least two freelancers via Twitter - one to create print ads for various things and one for some graphics for a video game.

My brother a freelance journalist linked to my blog via a retweet of one of my updates and my hit rate went up by 10 within the first 1.5 minutes, through that I've been bookmarked and had a couple of tentative nibbles! Maybe in a few months I will be able to catagorically say yes to this but for now lets say its promising! Definitely a tool to be used properly for effectiveness!
