Default Time Management for Social Media
Ok, I'm sure this has been approached in the past, but thought I would post again because new things and tips always come about.

I've been amazed with FB & Twitter and how often businesses/individuals post continually thru the day. I really have to squeeze time in just to post anything on FB & Twitter. I am still learning the know how on Twitter (bought a book which has helped greatly),but the time to get on Twitter is so limited due to business and family life so by the time I get on...most people in my area aren't online anymore to see my posts.

How do you all plan your time to post on FB & Twitter?

Thanks!

Well I am currently SAHM just starting up my business so I have more time than you BUT. I linked my facebook and twitter accounts so when I post on facebook it posts it to my twitter. Also you can set up twitter to work via txt messaging, making it so all you have to do is send a txt and it will post to your twitter account. These are both easy ways to bring up your activity for both.

You might want to consider scheduling updates to go out using a tool like Hootsuite, where you can input a tweet or a FB update and then schedule it to go out on a specific time/day. This isn't a substitute for personal interaction or connecting with people but using this sort of automation *in addition* to some personal interaction can help to ease some the pressure or stress of feeling you need to "available" at certain times throughout the day. You can then set aside a chunk of time in the evening or on the weekend to schedule tweets and FB updates to go out. (Note you can also send updates to LinkedIn using Hootsuite as well and some of these can even be same as what you're sending to Twitter or Facebook) I don't recommend do them all the same to twitter and Facebook since you might have some of the same followers on Twitter & Facebook so this would be redundant to them.

You can link your FB page to Twitter so FB posts go to Twitter, but I don't recommend do the reverse where all of your tweets go to your FB page. These are two entirely separate platforms and tweets often don't translate well in to FB page status updates. Plus, you can end up sending out too many updates on FB and then you risk losing fans or having them unsubscribe to your page.

Also, don't discount that people aren't on Twitter at night....I've often preferred the nighttime twitter folks to the daytime ones. So many people schedule tweets to go out during the day that you sometimes only find the real conversations happening at night. This is a great time to connect with other small biz owners who are also working in the evening.

For Facebook, I usually try to post there first thing in the morning when I log on and then check it again the afternoon or in the evening and sometimes post something else if I find it.

I have also linked my FB with Twitter. That way I only have to post once to update both programs. I spend more time on FB because I like the interaction from my friends.

I try to post once in the morning and then again in the evening. Sometimes the post might be to announce that I've added a new article on my website or what I've accomplished during the day.

Best wishes!

Great tips.....have found myself having the same issues. I've been trying different tools for posting to Twitter, FB and Linkedin and find that I like Hootsuite the best. I especially like the little Hootlet!

I use socialoomph to schedule some of my tweets then I try to check in throughout the day as well, of course, as others have said I work from home, have an Iphone app that allows me to use Twitter and have the "time" to do so. It has definitely been worth every bit of my time spent. Especially on Twitter, FB not as much, but still beneficial.

To me it's really not important to be an active individual on Twitter. Those who are often either robots or people who aren't focused on delivering the real value to their customers.

It's all about the quality. I've only posted 400 updates to my account in the past 3 months, yet I've got 108 real people following me.

Hi,

In addition to HootSuite mentioned in other posts, check out Posterous.com, Ping.fm, Seesmic.com and TweetDeck.com. HootSuite is really good for professional use when you want to manage multiple clients. But the others have their particular advantages as well. Check them out and see which one fits your needs.
