I would be very interested to hear which social networking sites you belong to and your opinions of them.

I'm currently a member of Twitter, Facebook and have just signed up for LinkedIn. I've met one client as a result of Twitter.

Well, I am on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Made lots of great connections on Twitter, but no clients yet. On Facebook, made lots of great connections, gained one client and in the "informal talking stage" with a potential client. Linked In is a whole other animal. I signed up for it a long time ago, but had trouble "getting into it." I don't visit it very often because I'm not sure of the point of LinkedIn.

Denise and Karla - Maybe the very best social media exchanges are happening on obscure or otherwise specialized forums (like this one!) where people really get to know each other. The "Big Three" of LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter are almost just portals to the more juicy stuff.

That being said, Carol, I do use the LinkedIn groups with some success. With email summaries coming to me from a couple groups each day, I get to know the members a little, and have a chance to be helpful.

Denise, I belong to Twitter, FB and LinkedIn and a lot of sub-groups on Linked In.
I don't do a lot on FB. I see people post pictures there, mostly family pictures.
Or maybe it's just my family posting.

I focus daily on Twitter and try to add some good content when I can.

LinkedIn groups send me a ton of newsletters daily and actually it's really hard to keep up with everything. I haven't gotten any clients yet from these groups but the more you stay on it, the more your name gets tossed around in cyberspace which is a good thing. I read as many posts as I can and try to help when I can. But I also see a lot of marketing campaigns on these newsletters too which I just delete. HTH

I just joined LinkdIn and three of its groups as I understand LinkdIn is more geared towards business/professional people. With the thought of "one at a time and make it meaningful" I will be actively participating once I've moved (going 200km away). I'm hoping to move mid-July, so life is pretty chaotic right now and home looks like a battlefield, but oh boy, does it ever make you clean out stuff you've collected over the years! I found a receipt from when I adopted my eldest kitty from the Humane Society as a youngster ... he's 9 now

I am a member of all three, Twitter, FB and Linkedin as well. I am still getting the hang of it but I think Linkedin has some great potential. I have set up a business page on FB and personally know of folks getting business from their "friends," but they are not VAs (they are photographers, hairstylists and make up artist, actually).

I haven't "published" my facebook business page yet, as I am still tweaking it.

I think Linkedin's group feature can help a VA get to know what her potential clients are talking about and what they find important. I am thinking of joining the groups that might coincide with my niche (lol, once I figure out what that niche is).

I have setup a profile on all sites my clients use - Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Fast Pitch, LinkedIn, XING etc.

I use LinkedIn and Twitter the most and Facebook for personal use only, although I will be setting up a business page soon.
