I'm wondering how much interaction everyone gets on their Facebook and Twitter pages. I'm starting to see more interaction on my FB page since I've been doing more networking and commenting on other pages. But on Twitter I'm not getting the same in return. I've RT posts and responded to questions but I don't get the same type of response from my followers. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get more interaction from my followers?

Great question Shannon! I have read a few articles on this topic. Re-tweeting posts and responding to posts and questions, commenting on other people's blogs, asking questions on your page to encourage interaction, and posting articles that would interest your followers, were some of the tips.
I am in the same boat as you however, and am interested in seeing the feedback on your question.

Are you using anything to track your engagement? I like a Chrome plug in called Socialbro. I use other tools as well but this one has an easy interface and gets me an idea of what is going on quickly. You are more likely to get responses at certain times. Theres also another plug in I would suggest called Buffer you can use to schedule them at optimal times for the highest reach. The more you know about your audience the more you can entice them with things they'd like to reply to or retweet. If you dont already, I would use bit.ly for links as this way you can measure the amount of interest in a subject by how many clicks you get. Another tip to is that surprisingly, your promotional tweets should only make up 5-15% of your total. I've read several blogs on the subject and the consensus is that similarly to how we 'turn off' to ads we also turn off to accounts who only do self promotion. Engaging works best for me when I just have really natural conversations with people. It seems counterintuative, but you'd be surprised at how those people come back when they do need something because they remember my comment on that article they posted... I hope some of that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions Luz! I already use SocialBro and the auto-scheduler in Hootsuite to optimize the time some of my tweets are posted and my posts on FB as well. Actually I don't do a lot of self-promotion but I post up to date information on a variety of topics to see what will get others engaged but so far I haven't gotten much back. I will check into bit.ly to see what those stats are!

I think it would be great for all of us on VA Forums to interact with each other for starters to encourage others! I know I'm endeavoring to do this so I hope others will do the same.

How long have you been actively using Twitter? I find the same thing, but I have only recently gotten more active. I am sure the more I interact the more interaction I will get.

Do you try to focus on the same people when re-tweeting and responding? Try that too. Someone that sees you more may be more apt to start talking to you.

I'm getting a lot on my Twitter page but not too much on Facebook and I'm not sure why! Maybe it's because I focus my time on getting other businesses Facebook pages up and running more than my own!

Fatima, my FB page is separate from my personal page. I'm getting more activity as I participate in more fan page parties and interact with other business pages.

Tina, I've been on Twitter since April and I'm going through the trial and error period as I find some of the people I was RT had set-up automatic posts and don't really monitor their profiles. So I'll keep at it to get more activity going. I'm having more success with FB these days so I'll see how it goes.

I'm having the same problem with my facebook page. My twitter is slowly getting more active and same with my facebook page. I tend to spend more time with clients pages but I would love for my own to be active and thriving.

However my facebook page looks like nigel no mates.

I've recently started to get back into fanpage parties too, blogging events, and just reaching out to other businesses (virtual and non virtual). I can see a big difference in just a few days. I hear you sista - fingers crossed!

I'm in a blogging group - they have threads set up every two days where they post up requests - these could be for comments on blog posts fb posts, shares, retweets, pins, and the rule is that for every request you make you have to do two people above you. Maybe we should do something like this on here? I'd totally love to support others who were new and connect with more people over social media.

I'm just not sure how it would work!
