Default Managing Your Online Reputation
I found this article from Stephan Spencer about a week ago, and after reading Sundi's post about how the typo's, abbreviations, misspellings online drive her (and ME) crazy, I thought I should start a new thread with this link.

It's all about how everything we do online creates an impression of us and our business, even if we are doing things on our personal profile pages. Just something for every one of us to consider who do the majority of our business and marketing online.

It's one major advantage of having a famous name. No one could google my name alone and find me.

This is so true. I have warned my teen son about this in the past. You never do know who is reading the posts and, worse, seeing the photos online!

If someone Google's my name, I rank in the first page. I would agree that as a business women you shouldn't get in the habbit of adding personal stuff online.

Hi

Do I ever agree!! I will almost always google someone if I am going to start a business relationship with them, just to see. I once was this close to hiring someone for a huge book project we were working on. Then I found her blog and she used not so nice language (and I mean really not so nice), complained endlessly how her clients (by name!) were a pain, etc. And that was the good stuff, it got worse. I was so grateful I found out ahead of time.

Thanks!

Diana you are so right about using Google as a tool to research potential employees and clients. I used to do alot of hiring and checked all the search engines (they all work a little differently so each may turn up different results) before making a final decision. I used to be surprised at what people posted out there on the internet without regard for the impact on their reputation. Not anymore though.

One word of caution, though, as in a previous example, take what you see with a grain of salt unless the words are from the individual. What someone else says (including positive things) could be misleading. For instance, I don't put much creedance to the "recommendations" on Linked IN because I know some of them and I know it's not an accurate description.

Sign in to your Google account, go to my account, and click on alerts. Then you can put in keywords that you want to get alerts on and how often.

OMG! This is good. I google potential clients all the time and it really helps if I can find out a little bit of information about them before we meet or talk. And JuneBug your right on the word of caution. Thanks.
