Do you sign up on LinkedIn as "you" or your business? I've read recently about companies having LinkedIn profiles. I messed up FB at first when I set up a business page not connected to my FB profile last year (had to start all over!). Want to start LinkedIn out right (if I can!).

There is a company area where you can add your company. Here' a nice post about how to do that.

If you want to be active on LinkedIn, you have to sign up as yourself. As far as I know, a company can't participate in groups, LinkedIn questions or acquire connections, etc. But after creating your personal profile, I suggest to add your own company profile.

I created a LinkedIn profile but it won't let me add my company page. I get an error message that it can't be created at the current time and if I have any questions to contact customer service. I followed the directions on the link exactly and checked in LinkedIn's Help Center. Can't figure it out. I contacted customer service.

At what stage does it give you an error? Try contacting LinkedIn but they usually take a long time to reply. My company took a few days to show on the list (to add to my profile) after I created it.

I created my profile and listed my business (as well as past places I've worked). On the "Add a Company Page," I put in my business name, e-mail, and checked on the "Verify" box, then clicked "continue." When the next page comes up, I get this error message in a pink box with an "X":

"We're sorry that a new company cannot be created at this time. For further questions, please contact us using the Customer Service link at the bottom of this page."

When I search for my business under "Search for Companies," it's not there. Technically, my business name is The Perfect Word, but there's already a company with that name so I added "Transcription Services" to the end...The Perfect Word Transcription Services.

I don't remember how at this point, but I was able to add my company. I don't use the company part, but it's there now! Are you on LinkedIn yet? It's very interesting and I enjoy belonging to several groups, as well as reading posts from my connections.
