Hi - I am using it but not so much for work leads. Most of my clients use it so I have set myself up and use all the same features they do - usefull when they require troubleshooting help or recommendations on how to use best. I can be found at http://www.linkedin.com/in/cyndifleming - add me to your network and let me know you saw my profile address here.

Janet-

Thanks for the info, I've been thinking of using LinkinIn as well and I think it will really help me feel comfortable with it!

Janet, thank you very much for posting that link to the YouTube video on Linkedin. I joined Linkedin several months ago, but I really didn't see how it could be tremendously useful to me. Now that I've seen that video, I understand.

I wish linkedin had more actual discussions, like we have here at the forum, and not so many people there for no other reason than to be blatantly self promotional. I am in two legal groups and it is nothing but personal advertisements. Little blurbs that are nothing more than links to the poster's blog or web site. I don't want to click thru. If there is something to be said, why not just say it in a linkedin group, why must I visit your site? Hmmmm.

I started using LinkedIn at my corporate job a few years ago. Our company was being acquired by a national wireless telecommunications provider and everyone started connecting on LinkedIn before we got booted. I have 100+ contacts right now that consist of past co-workers, clients, fellow VAs, and potential clients that I've talked to.
I've also joined some groups and I receive weekly digest emails so I know if there is something I can respond to.
To me LinkedIn is a way to stay connected and to share your knowledge. I highly recommend it.

I've been on for a while but haven't really gotten the "knack" of Social Media. I do find Twitter easier to use but still am a little hesitant. For some reason, I have a block about this, not sure why...

My thought process is the same as yours! I recently opened my LinkedIn account - I have only made a few contacts. I figure you start somewhere. And networking is very important in this business!

I started using LinkedIn more consistently earlier this year.

I have joined a few groups and find it very helpful. It gives individuals like me to find professionals with the same interests. Research the groups and you'll find something that works for you.

LinkedIn is a challenge to figure out at first but it's definitely worth the effort. Just keep plugging away at your profile and it will be finished in no time.

I'll be interested in knowing how it works for you.

I just got a great new client by using LinkedIn! We met at a networking event over a year ago. We connected on LinkedIn about 3 months ago. She saw my update about organizing a client's files and contacted me to do some filing. As we talked about ways my business could help hers, she decided to have me take over their marketing packages!

Congrats, Sheila! I am lately struck by the fact that it sometimes takes the longest darn time for clients to actually sign on with us. The courting period is long! So thank goodness for sites like LinkedIn, that let us develop those relationships slowly but surely.

I have the same comment as Kate - I wish there would be actual discussions. The local Group I joined just has the occasional self-promoting post with links to blogs. I'll put my video on my profile and perhaps look for other groups where the members actually participate.

I am also on LinkedIn and I have also found it easy to keep in contact with people that I have met through traditional networking. I have not actually received any clients from this, but like anything else it is a work in progress.

It is also good for us (VAs) to have a LinkedIn profile because that is something you can offer your clients. My first client does not have the interest of learning online advertising and networking, but he wants his business to be promoted on it. This is where I came in, when he found out that this is something that I can do for him.

You need to learn about all that they different social media sites have to offer so that you can provide this service (which is quite easy when you get to know it better) to your clients.

Congrats and great job! You used two perfect marketing tools, you kept in contact with people you met through networking and you gave others tips on how to help them. You are a perfect example of what to do to bring in business!

Good luck with the new client!

Yes, I use LinkdIN for another business I own and it has worked very well for me. I plan to design a page for my VA biz too.
