Default If you're new to Twitter
Hey There

Thought I would post this for all you new Twitter users..And, yes I know it's already been posted before but here and here are two awesome blog post from the Sweet, Sassy & Savvy Kimberly -"JKVirtualOffice".

These are a must read for using Twitter effectively. I have been receiving so many auto-follow Direct Messages from Virtual Assistants with links to their website. It seems so impersonal to me. By no means, am I a twitter expert just a little addicted to it! They're is a lot of connections to be made there- I've received many leads to clients as well. Just thought I would re-post these great tips for anyone that missed them to begin with.

Have fun with Twitter and be yourself

I too have to agree with you on this. The auto follow DM w/links to websites and products turns many off. Many miss the point of what social networking is about. It is not about pushing your services/products, it's about building relationships.

I am fairly new to Twitter as well and have printed a few articles on how to use it effectively. Unfortunately, I have not had the time to read them yet! So until then, I just try to post what I'm doing each day along with a small plug for my business! I'd love any other quick suggestions on how to reach more people (aka possible clients or networking friends) on Twitter!

I also don't really know how to search for people without knowing their name. Is there a way to find people by interests, industry, hobbies, schools, etc?

Thanks, Becky (@vmsowner)

Hi Becky

Those are great questions for new twitter users. First, I would definitely add a Bio to your profile. Doesn't have to be much or greatly detailed - just something nice and catchy about yourself. As far as searches...I use www.search.twitter.com . Once there you can do an advance search. Go to this thread and add the VA's you feel fit and then pay attention to their followers to see if any of them interest you for you to follow. Another good thread to read about Twitter!!

Maybe this bit of info will help you out some

Thanks Kena

I am one of the VA's who have not signed up for twitter as yet. I think I will make that one of my to do's tomorrow.

Thanks for the info again.

Hey Kena,
You rock. Thanks for posting some of my posts about Twitter. It's great that you are reaching out to remind those who might be a little new to Twitter the do's and the don'ts.

You are exactly right...using Twitter effectively and understanding how social networking works can be extremely useful for marketing yourself and your business. I would say with the exception of one client, all of the requests I've received for a proposal or new clients in the past four months has come from Twitter. Plus it's great for networking with so many other VAs.

Maybe we should have a Twitter chat event here where people can ask questions, get answers, share their experiences and how they use Twitter. Who's up for that?

Me too! I would take part in a Twitter 'conference' as I definitely see the effectiveness of using Twitter. I admire those of you who actively participate and enjoy reading their tweets when I get a chance.

Count me in too. I'm just now thinking about setting up on some social networking sites. I have a difficult time thinking of these as an area of professional service after looking at my kids and grandkids MySpace pages though. Must be getting old! I haven't browsed around Twitter yet so I'm hoping for a pleasant surprise.

I would love a Twitter conference! I am still floundering around with it. I need a Twitter 201 class... I get the basics (101) but need slightly more advanced help now. What I have experienced up to this point is great and I know there's more.
