Default How to Grow the Likers for a fanpage w/o the client
Hello all,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this. My client is a business coach as well as an owner of several different businesses.

I created a fanpage for his coaching business and normally, I would have him post on his personal page about it and have people who already know him "like" his fanpage.

Because of his other businesses, he'd rather not do that. Other than a Facebook ad, how do you recommend I grow his fanbase?

We are working on several blogs for his website to draw attention there (and hopefully his fanpage), he is giving webinars, and has spoken locally.

Any advice would be helpful!
thanks so much!
Candy

Does he have an email list? He can include a link to it in his e-newsletter. If he's on Twitter, he can tweet about it and he can also post a link to it from his LinkedIn account. I'd also recommend including it in his email signature. You can also add a social plugin to his blogs that allow people to click to become a fan directly from his blogs or website.

I may have a solution for you Candy. I'm a member of the Social Media Marketing Group on LinkedIn where there's a post about a Facebook Fan Exchange. If you're on LinkedIn, sign up for this Group, then once approved, look for the post and follow directions.

Thank you both.

He has no list of any sort. He does have a linkedin account, but as with his Facebook account, he won't use it to let his connections know about his Fanpage. I've been tweeting about it, but no new fans from that. Part of it of course is that he isn't working a network, I've been writing his tweets and statuses, and he hasn't put much of himself out there.

I will try the linkedin group. Thank you for the advice!

It's a bit far fetched of him to think he's going to get fans with no list and by not using any of his current networks. I wouldn't expect to see much in the way of connections, outcomes or increase in sales or interest in services from this approach.

I agree. Although he has been coaching privately for the last 15 years, his business has grown from word of mouth. I would like for him to work his network, but he is very reluctant to take the spotlight. The shame of it is he is an incredible speaker and has such a wealth of information. I would love to get the word out about him, because so many people could benefit.
I just have to do my best.

Maybe the big social networks just aren't a good avenue for him. Have you considered finding a smaller more intimate social network for him to join? Perhaps a Ning community or something like Biznik, which is sort of an indie LinkedIn. Maybe he'd feel more comfortable with those kinds of networks and then in the future he would consider working more with one of the bigger networks.

With 5 other businesses, he doesn't allot time for social media. He is great with the webinars though. Steve, I took your suggestion off of Linkedin and his fanbase has grown.

Once people here his message, I think it'll grow naturally. We just needed a base of people first.

You'll need to give people an incentive to view the page in the first place. Maybe something like a downloadable PDF ebook. You tweet it and paste the links around "get your free ebook" and use FBML to set up a special Facebook landing page then have something like, "be sure to Like us" at the end of the process.

I agree with Kimberly's tips. These are awesome ways of getting people to know about the fan page. One tactic that I use in getting more "likes" on my clients' fan pages is by welcoming new fans and tagging their names on the post (you can only tag those fans that are in your client's friends list or yours if you are an admin of the fan page). Once they are tagged, the post will be on their wall. Most fans love it and like the comment since it gives them the feeling that "liking" the page is highly appreciated.

This is the post that I usually write "A big welcome to our newest fans! (Then tag some names... about 6) You guys rock. Don't forget to tell your friends to visit our fan page and "like" us. Share the love!"
