Default How to get the most out of StumbleUpon
Everyone is addicted to Twitter, I'm wondering if anyone is still taking advantage of sites like StumbleUpon and Digg? These are still GREAT sources of traffic to your site and blog - they're 'community' oriented but not nearly as high maintenance as Twitter.

Here is a quick-and-easy article to help you make the most of StumbleUpon traffic: 17 POWER Tips For StumbleUpon Beginners

And another one worth reading: 10 Simple Tips to StumbleUpon Success

Thanks for posting these, Tess. I do use Stumbleupon for bookmarking but haven't used it as much as I could or should to network/building traffic since I haven't really been posting as much as I should to my blog. Caroline Middlebrook also has a free email course about using Stumbleupon for driving traffic. Just as with any "community" site where people are sharing and interacting, there are definite "do's" and "don'ts". It's best to be aware of them before jumping in. Your links are a good place to start.

A couple of things that I've learned recently about Stumbleupon. One was that is when you 'stumble' new site, you will be helping it the most by using the Stumbleupon toolbar. Using one of the links or plug-ins at the end of the post can actually cause more harm than good. Check to see if it's been reviewed and stumbled already. If it hasn't been reviewed, you need to review it once that box comes up. If you've clicked on the thumb's up and then don't do the review, then you've essentially send the site to a dead man's land and this actually hurts it.

Using Delicious or Digg are also good sites to work your way around to drive help drive traffic to a site.

Thanks, Tess, for posting these. I was getting close to checking out StumbleUpon, so these links will help.

So, Kimberly, do you think that we shouldn't have those little buttons at the bottom of our posts? I would think that most people wouldn't know about the problem you mentioned - so maybe remove the button? That would be kind of sad though. Not everyone would have the StumbleUpon toolbar installed either.

Deb,
I believe the post I read said it was good to have those buttons there for the other sites people can send your pages to, but that as "stumbler" it works better for you Stumbleupon profile and for the pages you want to Stumble if you use the Stumbleupon toolbar.

Thank you Tess for posting the links. I've been looking at StumbleUpon, but wasn't sure how to make if effective, so these are very helpful.

Kimberly, thanks for that information that using the toolbar is more helpful. I hadn't heard that anywhere else.

We use http://digg.com/ all the time. Its a fabulous site.

The other one we use all the time is:
http://www.reddit.com/

We use http://www.mixx.com/ more than StumbleUpon.
