I set up a Twellow Account, added to my Twitter "Following", then most will reciprocate with a "Follow", then I Direct Messaged and asked people to join me on my Facebook profile. I built up a list on FB of about 5,000 in approx. four months using this method (5,000 is the FB profile limit). Then, I added a Fan Page which is now a "Like" page

- I guess that is what they are calling it - and I DM my Twitter following to invite them to my Page for SusanDanielsBiz. Just as a note, I recently removed about half my FB profile friends because over time, I could tell who was really not interested in anything I had to offer and vice-versa and am now rebuilding my friends list. I think this is more efficient to than starting a new profile, simply because you are bound to get people from one signing on to the other, which is duplication of effort and I have always avoided that whenever possible.
You can also use the Page widget on your blogs and websites which will bring more traffic to your "Like" Page. You can have unlimited friends on your Page and they can be from anywhere - they don't have to be from your profile list of friends.
I hope this helps.
Warmly,
Susan
