Default Fan always = Friend?

I have a question about Facebook Fan Page. In order to add someone as your fan (on the business page), do you have to add them as a Friend first (on the personal page) ?

I am asking because I would like to add some Chamber members that I met as a fan (friend on the business page), without necessarily adding them onto my personal page. Is it possible?

I think you'd have to do it via regular email with a link to your fan page.

I'm a fan of a few companies and such [via my personal Facebook page] and did not have to be 'friends' with them to do so, so I am guessing not...

Jean, you don't have to be friends with your fans. They would just go to your biz page and become a fan.

You need to invite them to become Fans on your page. Just send them your link and let them know you are there. They do not have to be on your personal friend list.

Thank you everyone. It's good to know.

However, in order to do that, I do need to know their e-mail address, correct? So I can send the link to them..

What I did was finding their name on Facebook little Search box, and add as a friend, with a small personal note "I met you at this event...."

Thanks again

I'm just starting a business FB page and have a lot to learn. It appears that you can see a company's FB page without even signing in (say if you found it through Google/Yahoo, etc., or new the url). I'm assuming the business has to set it up that way...or maybe it's automatic. But it looks like to be a fan, you have to have a FB account, right? And your personal and business FB pages aren't connected, I don't think. I went in and started setting up my business one completely separate from my personal one (I really don't want them connected).

Hi Jean-VA

Do you have your fanpage set-up already? If so, under your avatar/pic there is a link that says "Suggest to Friends". Use that to invite your Chamber acquaintances. You don't need their email addresses to do this, you can do it all within Facebook.

The Perfect Word - Yes, you must have a FB account to be a Fan of any page.

Your facebook profile page and business fanpage are not connected. Yes, a person can see your fanpage without being logged on or even on FB, BUT they do have to have an account with FB to become a fan.

If you want to invite people within an email outside of FB, you can invite them with a link to your business fanpage. Some things to keep in mind:

1) If you have less than 25 ppl currently on your fanpag, you will be given a long url link. To add a more professional touch for your link, use a url shortner like tinyurl.com. Copy & paste the link within the tinyurl box and they will give you a special url link that you can use as many times as you want to send out an invite to join your fanpage

2) Once you reach over 25 fans, go to www.facebook.com/username and you can create a unique url for your fanpage (and profile page for that matter)

Some other tricks- add a fanpage badge to your website or blog to bring more traffic to your page as well.

To invite ppl that you are friends with on FB, you can just send them an invite message through your fan page.

Hope this helps!

Natasha

Thanks, Kena. I thought that was the case, but wanted to make sure!

EDIT: Natasha, I think we posted at the exact same time! Just wanted to say I LOVE tinyurl.com. I've used it for years when posting url's on forums, and using for this is a great idea.
