Lightbulb Facebook tip
Did you know that in the status bar of your Facebook profile you can include links (URLs)? That's the area where you can type in what you are doing and then all your friends can see it in their news feed on the home page. This is a great place to post a link to your website or to a new blog post.

I just learned that and thought I would share it!

You can also update your Facebook status with your latest Tweets. Just install the Twitter for Facebook application and it will show your latest Twitter on the status bar.

I don't Twitter that much, so I installed it although I can see it might become too much if you Twitter alot, lol.

I had the twitter application to update my status on Facebook and removed it. I just decided that it was too much content. But it's something that's recommended by several marketing experts.

I just recently signed up on Facebook and have re-connected to several old friends from high school and college.

I would like to add links to Facebook here and at other networking sites but don't really want potential clients or other "business" contacts to see all the updates and comments my "friends" post about their personal lives. Is it possible to seperate these two groups so they don't "interact"?

Does that make any sense??

Thanks for any advise you may have on this subject.

Re: Facebook tip
I'm in a similar situation to you Suzanne.

I'm fairly new to facebook and have found it a wonderful way of catching up with friends I lost contact with years ago.

I've been wondering about putting my business up on facebook but am not too sure how to do it. I also do not want my potential customers seeing all my personal stuff and those of my friends.

I would be very interested in what answer you get!

Hi Suzanne & Avocet,
Yes, there is a solution where you can keep the two entirely separate. If you go to the bottom of your facebook profile page and click on the teeny tiny print that says "Advertising" this will allow you to click on "Create Facebook Page" for your business. A "page" is different than your "profile". Anyone can become a fan of your page without asking your permission whereas with your profile someone has to request to become your "friend."

By creating a fan page then you can do updates for your business and post links for your business and those will go out to your "fans"-i.e. the people who have joined your fan page. This updates separately from your personal profile page. When you go to set up your fan page though make sure you try to categorize it under services and not "other business" as that will give you the most options for providing info about your business. You cannot change the category once you choose it.

Here is a link to Mari Smith's site (the facebook for business guru) where she has a video introducing facebook PAGES and then if you scroll further down the page she walks through the process of how to set up a page as well as ideas for how to promote your page and what applications you can add.

You can also check out my facebook business page HERE. It's still a work in progress...

Hope this helps.
