Question Facebook post suggestions...
Hello all!

I've recently started my Facebook page and trying to build my "likes" by running Facebook ads. However, I'm having problems figuring out what type of posts to make.

What types of posts do you post? Is your fan base reactive to them?

This is something I have been struggling with for a bit…direction anyone?

Hello! It may be difficult for me to make many suggestions without knowing exactly what you are offering and what your business is all about. Also, you mention running ads, but then mention posts. Writing ad copy and writing posts are two different things.

Can you perhaps provide a little more information because I would love, love, love to help you out. Can you advise...how many likes do you currently have and how many would you like to target in the near term? Do you have a website? Do you have any custom applications on your fanpage now, such as a custom welcome page and/or reveal tab? Do you have a blog or a free giveaway you can provide?

I personally don't recommend that people jump right into buying ad space. It can become expensive quickly, and you need to be prepared to conduct analytics on your results so you know which ads may be bringing you what you need, and consistently adjust. It's a full out campaign - but if you decide you want to go that route I would recommend you review some information from the following folks. Just know that there are a lot of free and very low cost ways to improve the # of likes. One other thing to know is that it isn't the quantity as much as the quality. If you have 5000 likes and none of them are converting to buying customers...it's just a number. :-)

They are both excellent resources for facebook advice. HTH at least a little for now.

Thank you for the reply Pam.

I recently obtained a $25 credit towards Facebook advertising so I took advantage of the advertising seminars they offer and created my own ads to run. I started out with 9 people on my like list and am now at 40, in about a month. I completely agree, quality is much more important that quantity but the catch is, none of these likes have shown any interest in becoming clients. I'm not sure if the reason for that is my poor posting to my page or if they just liked my ad so they liked my page. But I definitely am not stuck on the number rather I would like to get to know my fans and create a foundation with them.

I'm just not to sure which route to take with the my page posts, as in content. I would hope that if I could get my current fans to interact with my posts that would ripple into their friends seeing posts and my exposure to become greater. I currently don't have a welcome page, reveal page or custom applications because from what I have read it is fairly technical to set those up. My only reason for pursuing the Facebook page was to get exposure for cheap. I do however have a website set up and a like button on my website.

I hope this helps clarify my first post. Sorry for the vagueness.

Oh...ok. I understand better. This helps. Your are correct in knowing that you need to get them to engage. I do recommend custom tabs as a start, and most aren't really all that technical. You could use Pagemodo or Hyperarts templates. They are super easy to add to a facebook page, and both are very reasonable. Hyperarts is a good site for ideas on how to get more traffic. And...I still would highly recommend Mashable and Mari Smith as resources for ideas.

Meantime, I noticed on your website that you seem to be more of a generalist, than having a specific specialty. What you could consider doing is a theme of a month kind of posting. For instance, I notice you have travel listed. So, write a daily status update highlighting travel arrangement tips. You need to show your expertise. To get them to engage you have to invite them. For example you might say something like - "Recently I had a client who needed us to get them on a flight with only a day's notice! Not much time to get a good deal, but we were able to do...blah, blah, blah - and then ask them - what was your worst travel nightmare?" When they answer, you can tell them how you might have solved that for them.

You also need to ask them to share. You need to be a little assertive as well. Not aggressive or pushy, but assertive. For instance, I just put up a new page yesterday. My goal was to have my 25 in one day. I've gotten 23. I came on the forum here and asked people to like my page, and I liked them all back. Then everyone from this forum who liked me, I promoted them to my network. Then I pushed it out to all my friends on my profile, but I didn't stop there. As soon as the first 3 people liked my page (because at least some will) I made a post on my page thanking them for joining and I encouraged all the others AGAIN to go like my page. That got me several more. I have a goofy picture of a dog that I had, with a little story to go with it. I used that to promote some more, but people had to go to my page to see it. Go look and see how I did it. Oh...and while you're there...like my page.

The tips could go on and on. Having the reveal tab and a welcome page with video (if possible) and what is huge as well is having a freebie with an opt-in box. Make sure you are making them like the page before they get your freebie. Also, make sure you are writing blogs regularly and promoting them and always ask people to share. Make sure your information is in your signature line of your emails, and invite people to like & share. You have to just do it consistently and assertively everywhere you go.

Sorry that I'm rambling so much. I just get excited about it all.

Thank you so much for all the great tips. I found your page on FB and "liked" it, along with making a post.

I plan to start digging in and researching your tips.

So much to research and exploring to do, it seems that it is neverending. But, thank goodness it is available!

Thanks again for all the help. It is greatly appreciated!

I didnt notice a blog on your website, but if you have one else where and you post blog content related to the industry that is something else you could post to your fan page. I've only got like 20 likes and 3 blog posts and I posted them all on the fan page in case any of my fans care to read it.

Hi Paulette, thank you for the reply.

I don't have a blog yet. I've actually never written a blog post. Kind of embarrassed about that but I just started and haven't quite had the chance to dip my toes into that just yet. Unfortunately, I still have to work a part-time job until this VA thing picks up. Right now I'm doing some tweaking to my website, getting drafts of a contract, welcome packet and client consult going along with creating my business plan all at the same time. Yikes! But, I know that in time things will pan out.

Hey Jo...I'll be checking that out. Shortcuts are awesome.

Angie - Just thought I'd mention that there is a website called Fiverr.com. (yep...2 "r's - not a typo)...where people will do all kinds of stuff for just $5.00. Make sure they are among the top rated and have a decent history of delivering results, but people write blog posts as well.
