Default Facebook?
Hi,

Is anyone using Facebook? I just created an account and I am having so much fun with it! It seems to me that it's an in-between for LinkedIn and MySpace. You can get your business across but also connect with personal friends.

Tess, should we have a VAF Facebook group?

I don't use Facebook. I think it's more for the younger crowd. If I were going to go with any of these services, I'd use Linked In.

Hi Doreen,

I use Facebook and LinkedIn. And actually just attended a Social Marketing and Media Webinar(along with some other VAF forum members ) on how to use them effectively for your business and how to offer those services to your clients.

I also have a personal Facebook account..

I would be interested in joining the VAF Facebook group

Facebook is probably the number one social networking site besides twitter and then linkedin comes 3rd. Everyone’s one facebook it's a matter of learning how to use it. It is much better than linkedin however linkedin is good also but nowhere as good as facebook and twitter. it is actually not for the younger crowd at all it is for everyone and is very beneficial to all business owners whether virtual or not. You can post events, create groups, join groups, have ppc campaigns. you will meet many wonderful business women and men. the opportunities are huge with facebook. I have gotten a few clients from facebook and many great contacts.
I was also on the social media call last night and was glad to hear that what I know is correct.

I would be more than happy to help anyone learn facebook if anyone is interested. Just contact me and I will show you the ropes

I also have a personal account on Facebook. I use it purely for fun, but I've seen many people use it effectively for marketing and publicising various events.

I'm chimming in a little late on this one but I created a FaceBook page for my business and joined a couple of groups in Chicago and have actually made a few connections. I think it's a great tool for additional marketing.

I love Facebook - it's a great way to connect informally with clients, fellow VAs and friends!

Thankfully I did not associate my business with my facebook account. Many friends from school and locally have found me and it seems like my FB account has become a party zone.

I don't do business through Facebook, but I try to be aware that my clients can look me up on there if they want to.

I agree with many of the responses here. Facebook has very quickly become one THE ways to promote your business and to network.

Of course, you have your personal profile but then you set up a separate FAN page for your business where you post information about your business any updates or events on that page will go out to the fans of your business page. Those fans don't necessarily have to also be "friend" of your personal page.

You can also create ad campaigns and post your Blog RSS feed. It's simply another way to get your name and brand out there for people to find and see. Since much of how Facebook operates is Viral, then you have a huge potential audience who can see what you do and who you are. I had an old college friend contact me about my service for himself and for a friend through Facebook.

I recently set up my Business fan page and released it this week. You can take a look at it HERE to see what I've added to my page. It's still a work in progress.

Also, if you want to see more about how Facebook can be used for Business check out Mari Smith's website/blog at http://whyfacebook.com. She has a great post that list 10 reason for using Facebook for business.

Join the VA Forums group that Maria set up while you're there too!

Very well said Kimberly!!!

Facebook has many options to advertise yourself and you can have seperate profile pages 1 for friends and 1 for business. you can also limit what certain contacts see on your profile such as picture friends list etc.

You can creat seperate lists of friends also. The ones that can see the limited profile and the ones that can view your entire profile.

Then there are event pages you can create, fan pages, Groups, post in the marketplace etc.
