What are your thoughts on autofollowing other Twitter users?

The reason I ask is because I am conflicted on this issue. I love Twitter because I do like connecting with different people. When I first started out, I read everyone’s profile and then it just got to be too much and switched to autofollowing. However, the downfall with autofollowing is that although you are being polite you have no idea who you are following.

Case in point, I was going through my Tweetdeck and noticed this profile that had I read it would never have followed (it was very inappropriate). I have now gone back to my old method of reading profiles. It may take me longer, but I definitely don’t want to give anyone the wrong impression because people may judge you based upon who you follow too. I’m now in the process of going through and searching for profiles that I previously gained through using autofollowing.

No,I don't autofollow. I read each individual bio. Then I choose if I want to follow the person or not. autofollowing is against my own twitter rules - lol.

I do not auto follow. I looked into that when I first started and then just read each bio and make a decision. I also don't dm anyone when they follow but instead thank them personally on the timeline. That gives them public recognition so someone else can follow them if they want to. A little extra time but I not really worried about quantity of followers. www.twitter/olindaservices

That is a great idea about thanking them on the public timeline. I haven’t been autofollowing that long, but am glad I learned my lesson early in the game. I will definitely be going back to the basics and reading every profile. SocialToo is an application that I am using right now to make my job of “cleaning house” a little easier.

I have never used auto follow. I don't like to reward those who are gaming the system by following them so I make sure to check out all my new followers. Some people just use software to auto follow people and then they go in an un-follow you a couple of days later.

Thanking people in your public timeline is good, but just be sure to only do it every now and then. There's been some buzz on Twitter about people being grumpy about just seeing people thanking their followers all the time.

No, I don't autofollow. Like others have said, I personally check out each person before I decide to follow. I want to build personal relationships through Twitter, and autofollow just seems too impersonal for me.

I do not autofollow either. I like to check out the bio of the person first and even read some of their tweets before I will return a follow.

I also do not autofollow. I read every profile before I make a decision and then I send a personal thank you. I'm glad I made this decision because after I read the profile of one of my followers, I saw a lot of profanity in his posts and thought it was inappropriate.

I am guilty!! I am a autofollower! lol

It has it's pros and cons. First of all it depends on your business time and your niche. Because I am a 1STOP Business Shop my services are for everyone which means that I am not limited to who I provide my services too.

However for my clients I do not recommend auto following if they have a niche or service that is not for everybody.

So being in the social media certification course I know that you should follow people of value to you and your business. Do I recommend autofollowing to VA's? Yes only to those that do not have a niche, for instance if you are a REVA makes no sense for you to follow everyone.

I personally don't have the time to go through every profile and see if they are a fit so this makes it easier. Think of it this way: If they can't use your services chances are they know several people that could. If you already have a full client base and don't want anymore then it makes no sense to follow everyone either. Think of the extra profits if you start subcontracting work out.

I do not decline any work and subcontract out all the time and the revenue is awesome!!
