Cool Social Networking Widgets! - Virtual Assistant Forums

Hey Everyone!

I participate in a few social networks and have found it to be a pain to keep them updated. My clients are now getting into social network marketing and I'm finding neat little tools to make it easy for all of us! Today I discovered the most AWESOME tool to connect information on social networks. It's called Widget Box http://www.widgetbox.com.

It's awesome for several reasons.

1) When the social network doesn't have a link, most likely there's a widget for it. For example; I've been dying to put my Twitter posts on my My Space Page. There's a widget that lets you connect your twitter to TONS of different networks AND create code to copy and paste it into your website! Yahoo!

2) When your clients create a blog, you can go in and create a "blidget" (love that term) and add it to the directory. Then ANYONE can create code to add your clients blog (or your blog) to their website and social networks!

3) There is a really cool widget that allows you to use meebo (a chat tool) on your website. Anyone coming to your website can immediately chat with you or leave a message if you aren't online.

I'm sure there are more great uses for these widgets, but I'm just getting started and thought I'd share the fun with all you techy VA's out there!!

Hi Kristen - these sound worth looking into. I'm only just discovering all the tools to use on my site, so widgets are a BIG novelty! Thanks for the tip - maybe Sunday will be a funday afterall! Have fun widgeting! Marie

Have you seen Spock? It's a people search engine - still in Beta form but has heaps of people on it already. It pulls up information from existing social networks to compile information about people. It's like a Wikipedia - you can search for yourself and claim your entry if it's there and then add to it. So it means you can actually link all your sites, blogs, social network pages and so on. I thought it was just another network at first and ignored it last year - there are so many of them and I just didn't want to keep inviting people to join this one and then that one and so on - who's got the time to keep doing that? But this is quite different.

The info on me was pulled from MySpace and others have added to it - I just had to go in and say 'yes' that is mine.

I hadn't heard of Spock yet - I tend to ignore anything that looks like MySpace until it's unavoidable anyway, but actually looks pretty cool. At least it's a fresh new concept in that arena - thanks for sharing Kathie!

Yeah, definitely doesn't look like MySpace. I found that heaps of others had posted information about me, added my websites, my book cover, my photos, and tagged me as their friend, contact, and so on. I had to just go in and claim the entry as belonging to me and then voted 'no' on anything I didn't want on there, like an old photo, facebook references, etc. I've added a bit of stuff about myself but most of it was done by others already. I've spent a couple of days going in and out and exploring but find I'm already in the top 1% of people on there - which is amazing. But I'm on page 58 - goodness knows how many people are on this site already! You can just search on people by their name so I would be easy to find there.
