Default Change Name on Facebook Page
If you have a Facebook page, you might want to check out the new Admin panel. By clicking on "Edit Page" under your profile pic, then you will go to the newer, cleaner Admin panel.

If you have less than 100 fans, then you will also have the option to change the name on your Fan Page. If you don't like the name of your fan page or you want to add some keywords to the title, then now's the time to change it. Once you get a certain number of fans, then you will no longer have the option to change it.

This new admin panel also makes it easy for you to add another Admin via email.

Kim,

I have a long name to my facebook fan page that I am thinking of shortening.

Since the fan page name is not the same as the URL what benefit do you see in changing and/or creating a Facebook fan page name?

Do you have any recommendations for creating or optimizing the fan page name?

Thanks for the update.

Janine

Kim,

The Facebook page URL does contain the name of the page in it so if you keyword optimize your page name, it will be in the URL...but having a keyword optimized 'name' is always good too so if the URL didn't contain the page name it would still be better than nothing =)

In this day and age it's always good to try to keyword optimize everything possible if it makes sense. Sometimes it makes more sense to 'brand' rather than go with keywords so it's all in what you're targeting more if you can't merge the brand with the keyword.

Hi

Wow I didn't know that! I was thinking of starting over with my fan page so I could get some keywords in there and not just be my co name.

Thanks for that info. Now hopefully I can figure it out!

Hi Janine,
There is definitely some benefit to having one or two keywords in the title of your page as this is what will most likely get picked up and indexed by the search engines and it also helps when people do a search on Facebook. I don't think that it matters as much to have the URL be matching or to have the URL have keywords in it. Typically, I tell clients to go with their business name for the URL because part of having a vanity URL is to be able to have it shorter to give to people for promotion purposes.

Key words in the title should be kept to a minimum though so the title of your page isn't too long since your title appears with any updates you post.

@Karen,
The title of page appears in the URL when you first make the page. Once you have 25 fans then you can go in and select a custom (and much shorter URL) which is what Janine was referring to. I agree though that sometimes it makes more sense to brand than to go for getting keywords in the title. It all just depends on your business and your strategy.
