Default Brainstorm with me
Hello
A question I frequently get asked is: How do I populate my fanpage? In this one particular situation, the client had very few Twitter followers(working on building relationships and adding followers) and NO Facebook profile to suggest his friends become a fan or like his page. EEK, sticky situation! No, it's not impossible, but not easy either. I'm not big on spamming all my facebook friends to become a fan of someone else's page unless I feel it will add value to them or interest them.

So, What is your ideas? How would you help this client? This is just to give others ideas to help build their or clients pages!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas!

At first when you said "populate" I thought you meant like updates. :-)

Some of the things I tell my clients is to put the link to your fan page/twitter/linkedin EVERYWHERE:
Encourage ppl on your twitter to connect with you on FB and LinkedIn and then do the same on the other ones
Put your links on your email, website, newsletters
Connect the client in the directories: wefollow, twellow, etc.
Formulate an email for this client to send out to his email (I know he has friends, I hope ;-) )

Just a few to get you going
HTH!

I agree with Rebecca. Post a link everywhere.

If your client, or you, subscribe to Constant Contact (or any other for that matter) send out a special post card announcing the page.

Depending on what your client's business is, can they give some sort of freebie to people who "like" their page? Either first 10 "likes" or number 25, or whatever number you want. Then post the contest on Twitter, etc and have people RT it to get the word out.

Hi Kena,

Does the client have business associates or affiliates who would be willing to post on their own Facebook fan page to Come Join XXX's Fan Page? This might keep the fans to a similar industry as your client.

Rebecca mentioned LinkedIn. If the client has a LI page, he/she could post in the status that they are looking for fans and provide the link.

If the client is part of a group on LI that is specific to his/her industry, perhaps the client can post a discussion question and include a request to fan/like the page.

I was also going to mention the article from today on Social Media Examiner as it has some good tips.

I think your are right to be reluctant to suggest his page to your FB friends. That's a slippery slope to go down and then will all of your other clients to also expect that?

Rebecca gave you some great ideas!

I'd also recommend that if he hasn't already, to add the Fan Page widget to his website as another way to get people to become fans.

Another idea is to have him join (if he hasn't already) some relevant groups either in his industry or specifically about social media on LinkedIn. Often there is a discussion thread within these groups specifically for people who want to post a link to their fan page URL to get other people to join.

The idea to give away a freebie is also a great one.
