Twitter Means Business: How microblogging can help or hurt your company by Julio Ojeda-Zapata offers great insights into the relatively new social networking platform called Twitter. Before reading this book, I’d heard mentions of Twitter but wasn’t convinced that I needed to take time out of my busy schedule to sign up. After reading the first few chapters, a light bulb clicked on and I started to realize the true value that Twitter could bring to my business.
The book explains that Twitter is an avenue for connecting with other professionals as a way to grow your business or, for larger companies, as a savvy customer service tool. Readers are given a chapter full of real-world examples of companies, from large corporations to one-person service providers, that are benefiting from Twitter. Personally, I love seeing real examples of people like me who’ve seen actual results, such as an increased prospect base and better exposure for their business. (As a side note, I’ll stick my own success story in here: literally within days of joining Twitter, I reconnected with a contact of mine who said she’d been meaning to get in touch with me for months to do some writing for her, and after a few 140-word posts back and forth, we’re now in the process of getting an agreement signed. In the past week, I’ve also connected with dozens of interesting professionals – and possible clients - worldwide that I would have never met if it weren’t for Twitter.)
The author also provides warnings on how
not to use Twitter. While most Twitterers blend their personal and professional lives to some extent, there is a line that really shouldn’t be crossed, which you’ll read about in more detail on the pages of this book.
Twitter is a highly user-friendly application, but there are plenty of tools out there to make the navigation even easier. The author devotes a chapter to those resources that will help you get the most out of Twitter, including a few Twitter basics to help you get started.
Twitter Means Business is written in a conversational tone; by the end, you really start to get to know, and like, the down-to-earth author. This book is best for those that aren’t sure how to use Twitter in their business and want an easy-to-follow guide to get them started.
This paperback book consists of 152 pages and can be found on Amazon.com for $17.95.
