JKVirtualOffice : So, I know many of you here are on Twitter, and I've seen a few who are not, but who else isn't using Twitter yet?

lisap : I do not understand Twitter yet.

MLCBusines : Interested on learning how to find clients on Twitter.

Jocarole : I'm not

661VA : I have not used it yet!

Your Virtual Wizard : That's very nice of you to make that offer to the lucky random chatter.

gris133 : I'm still very new to Twitter World!

JKVirtualOffice : And those of you who have been using Twitter for Biz, please chime in with your tips & tricks as well.

PamH53 : I am on Twitter but not as active as some of you.

Your Virtual Wizard : I use it every day but I want to make it work better for me.

lisap : I am interested in knowing if Twitter can really help you grow your biz.

MaryH : Hi everyone, sorry I'm late.

JKVirtualOffice : Twitter can definitely help you grow your biz if you choose to use it wisely.

JKVirtualOffice : The vast majority of my referrals and new clients in the past 4-5 months have come from my use of Twitter.

lanelt : Using it wisely is the key.

MLCBusines : I also would like to make Twitter work better for me.

anisemama : Twitter has just been such a wonderful resource. Met so many great people, and had so many great things happen because of it!

JKVirtualOffice : Twitter is basically a microblogging platform where you can connect & interact with others.

JKVirtualOffice : If you don't have an account set up, then I'd recommend getting one set up.

Virtually Assisting You : I used it wisely today and won $100!

MLCBusines : Really enjoy talking with others.

vainparadise : I have also gained a lot of new clients via Twitter as well.

JKVirtualOffice : I recommend using either your real name or an easy to remember name related to your biz.

MLCBusines : How did you win $100?

JKVirtualOffice : Dawn, you rock on Twitter!

lisap : Do I need to learn to blog or begin a blog before using Twitter?

leedrozak : Hi all, a little late here.

JKVirtualOffice : Kena! How did you win money???

Japhylis : Dawn does rock! so many great tips!

JKVirtualOffice : No, you do not need to have a blog to use Twitter.

JKVirtualOffice : You log into Twitter like any other account you might have like with VAF or Facebook and that's were you do all your Tweeting.

vainparadise : *blushing*

Virtually Assisting You : I helped out another twitter user with a technical problem(Yes, Tess you can pick up your jaw-lol)

vainparadise : I prefer Twitter vs. Blog everyone who knows me knows this.

MLCBusines : I like to think of twitter as an on-going conversation.

JKVirtualOffice : If you choose a Twitter ID that isn't your real name, I highly recommend that you list your real name in your bio.

MrsAn : You did great today kena

Administrative Partners : You guys have mentioned gaining clients via Twitter.. thats what I'm interested in learning

JKVirtualOffice : People want to know who they are interacting with.

Rebecka Melson : Me too. I only have the patience to write 140 characters at a time

JKVirtualOffice : I have a client who I help with managing her new followers, and she doesn't follow back ppl who aren't using their real name.

vainparadise : I think I have gained clients via Twitter because I haven't been looking for them there.

Virtually Assisting You : @adamurbanski offered anyone that could fix his tweetdeck $100. And I helped him.

Your Virtual Wizard : Is it better to use your real name as your ID or your business name or a nickname?

vainparadise : I do not promote my services on there...they see what I do after I establish relationship with them

MLCBusines : I use my name as my User ID and place my name in my bio.

JKVirtualOffice : And, I really owe my entrance into Twitter to Rebecka.

MaryH : Dawn, same here

JKVirtualOffice : I saw her on there and she got me all curious about it.

MaryH : I don't promote my business at all really, just talk with people, help when I can and make friends

Virtually Assisting You : Thanks - Kristina! You got to witness it huh?

JKVirtualOffice : Kena- way to go, girlfriend!

Your Virtual Wizard : I use my real name but sometimes I wish I used my biz name as my ID so people can identify with my biz name.

lisap : how do clients find you?

Administrative Partners : how do you establish a relationship? Also, how do FIND groups.. my searches come up empty

Virtually Assisting You : Kim, Dawn and Mary is so right! build relationships first

MLCBusines : That's great Kena!

JKVirtualOffice : What you use as your Twitter ID name is up to you. I use @jkvirtualoffice b/c my real name would be too long.

Rebecka Melson : I have 2 accounts, one w/ personal name and one w/ business name

MaryH : Kena, that's awesome. @adamurbanski is a hoot

anisemama : I've been thinking of changing my Twitter name to my real name, but am afraid it will confuse people!

JKVirtualOffice : Clients find me in a number of ways.

Rebecka Melson : well, actually my biz name is too long, so I use my web address

MaryH : I establish relationships by just replying to people's tweets, asking questions, getting to know people more as if I was having an in-person conversation with them

lisap : Rebecka do you use your real name in your personal and biz bio?

vainparadise : Interact with them by commenting on what they have to say by sending an @, Retweet what they say..

JKVirtualOffice : You helped @admanurbanksi, Kena? Wow, that's great.

leedrozak : Kimberly, why don't you give the top tips dos and donts for those who have not used twitter a lot

Your Virtual Wizard : Rebecka - so you tweet personal stuff on the personal acct and biz-related tweets under the biz id?

Rebecka Melson : yes lisa

JKVirtualOffice : Dawn is exactly right. Interacting with people.

vainparadise : Kena I saw his Tweet on that

JKVirtualOffice : Re-Tweet their stuff, Respond to it.

leedrozak : for example I had a networking buddy new to twitter who did not understand retweets

Rebecka Melson : no, I interact w/ people under my name and post business topics only on biz site

Jocarole : What is a tweet deck?

Administrative Partners : I'm so confused.. people will start following me and I have no idea how they found me..

MLCBusines : I mainly follow other VA's. I know that VA's hire VA's but any suggestions on finding others to follow.

lisap : so do your clients find you on your biz site or via your personal after you talk with them?

JKVirtualOffice : Tamika, people will follow you from any number of ways.

Rebecka Melson : I have 700+ followers and probably only know how about 50 of them found me

MrsAn : It is crazy....the way people just find you!

lisap : I just dont get it?

Administrative Partners : so how do you find the people you interact with or did they find you?

JKVirtualOffice : A retweet is when you bascially copy a tweet someone else sent with their ID in it.

MaryH : @MLCBusiness When I started, I went through who then people I followed were following and followed those that I thought looked interesting and those I thought I could learn from

lisap : Do I get an account and then start posting what I am doing all day?

Jocarole : 700 wow thats a lot of followers

Jocarole : wow 700 is a lot!

Rebecka Melson : both lisa.. i have links to each site on the other, but I only interact w/ people on the personal site

Virtually Assisting You : Reply, Tweet or Retweet. Interact. that's how you get followers

vainparadise : Some find you while doing a search for a particular word and that could have been part of one of your tweets

JKVirtualOffice : It usually starts with RT: and followed by the original Tweeter's ID.

Jocarole : wow 700 is a lot!

PorterWood : Can we start out with some basic Twitter lingo... Tweek Deck, re-tweets, etc?

Your Virtual Wizard : Why would you retweet?

JKVirtualOffice : People appreciate it when you do this because then their tweet and their ID are also seen by all of your followers.

anisemama : Every time I tweet about a new topic, I get new followers.

MaryH : Tweetdeck is a platform for using Twitter - it allows you to organize the people you follow into groups..makes it easier to follow conversations

MLCBusines : Mary - Thank you! Great Idea.

Administrative Partners : how do you get tweetdeck?

lisap : So Rebecka when you respond to people on your personal acct people connect you to your biz acct?

JKVirtualOffice : You can retweet whatever you find interesting. Typically it includes a link to something online that you found interesting.

Your Virtual Wizard : So by retweeting ur passing on to your followers what someone else said as a favor?

JKVirtualOffice : Thanks for answering the Tweet deck question Mary.

Jocarole : Makes sense to me, thanks

Rebecka Melson : yes lisa

JKVirtualOffice : Tweetdeck can be downloaded for free.

Rebecka Melson : I don't think I really understood the point of using twitter for biz until I read the Twitter Handbook

Your Virtual Wizard : Interesting. I see RT all the time and didn't know what that was.

JKVirtualOffice : I believe there is a link on the Twitter resources page to it.

MaryH : No problem. I love Tweetdeck - makes things so much easier.

JKVirtualOffice : You can find a link to Tweetdeck here: http://twitter.com/downloads

PorterWood : Where do you find the "Twitter Handbook"? Is it actually a book or an online guide?

Administrative Partners : i probably should read through that *blushing*

JKVirtualOffice : Which Twitter Handbook was that, Rebecka?

MLCBusines : Have heard of Tweedeck. Will be looking into installing it soon.

MaryH : Rebecka, the one by @CoachDeb?

Rebecka Melson : by @CoachDeb and @WarrenWhitlock you can download it at twitterhandbook.com

leedrozak : I find it is easier to follow conversation and people with Tweetdeck because of the grouping

JKVirtualOffice : Yes, that's a good one

JKVirtualOffice : That's a good one!

vainparadise : And don't forget about this section here http://www.virtualassistantforums.com/social-networking has a lot of great resources everyone should read up on.

Your Virtual Wizard : Thanks for that link...

Jocarole : Thanks - just DL the tweetdeck

JKVirtualOffice : You can also download a Twitter Guide from Caroline Middlebrook at http://tinyurl.com/2xhhpc

sharnatlanta : Retweet is quoting someone. i.e. if I tweet "cool BlackBerry software ....... link, etc" then someone can just retweet me giving me credit for the find.

JKVirtualOffice : Be sure to post your Twitter ID in the section that Dawn just posted so we call all follow you.

661VA : Yeah I really need a Twitter guide, because without it I am so confused.

JKVirtualOffice : I find that it's helpful to tweet about what you know. Let people get to know you personally.

JKVirtualOffice : And make your bio stand out. You only have a few characters, but it's important.

JKVirtualOffice : It's one of the places that people look first when deciding whether to follow you.

lisap : Do you have to mention what your doing all day and night?

Jocarole : Thanks Dawn

MrsAn : I really need to think about that! The bio area is so small!

Your Virtual Wizard : I get a lot of DM (direct messages) about my bio more than anything I tweet. It is important, you're right.

JKVirtualOffice : For those of you already on Twitter, how important do you think your Twitter background is?

vainparadise : You don't have to mention what you are doing, make small talk...ask Q's post links to great blogs

Rebecka Melson : No, you can start discussions or post topics, you don't have to say what you are doing all day

sharnatlanta : http://www.commoncraft.com has a "Plain English" series... i.e. Twitter in Plain English, RSS in Plain English.. GREAT explanations of the purpose of various forms of social media

JKVirtualOffice : It's another way that you can stand out from others.

Japhylis : I think the background is a good way to promote your business

Rebecka Melson : I just have my logo on my background... I need to learn to do a custom one

vainparadise : i just did my background and I was getting new clients before that.

Olinda Services : I like to think mine reflects my personality. A little peak into the real me.

sharnatlanta : I don't think a Twitter background is THAT important. I signed up a YEAR ago and just customized mine this week!!

lanelt : also reply to what other people say

JKVirtualOffice : Yes, the Plain English series is good as well.

Your Virtual Wizard : I think the background is very important but shouldn't be distracting.

MLCBusines : Just got logged out. I'm back.

sharnatlanta : You can see my custom background at... /sharnatlanta for those of you don't know what that might be

JKVirtualOffice : I recommend just going in and watching the conversation, watch what people tweet about.

sharnatlanta : I think a good clear pic, and bio are critical. Background shouldn't be distracting, creative is just a plus.

lanelt : I agree...I don't think the background is that important. Of the people I've followed I have only looked a couple twitter.com pages

MLCBusines : How do you place a background on your twitter page?

Your Virtual Wizard : I tried to brand my background with my logo and site...

Rebecka Melson : You probably shouldn't curse as much as I do on mine though. LOL

JKVirtualOffice : Sharnatlanta- you are right on with the pic/avatar.

JKVirtualOffice : The background is simply another way you can customize.

sharnatlanta : Backgrounds can be changed in the Settings options. You can choose from a few that Twitter provides too.

JKVirtualOffice : I look at hundreds each week and there are some that definitely stick out.

JKVirtualOffice : But it's not imperative.

leedrozak : That half the fun of following you Rebecka

vainparadise : I love my background!

JKVirtualOffice : But Rebecka, it's so you! And it cracks me up.

MLCBusines : Thank you!

sharnatlanta : you can find a lot of cool things on search.twitter.com i.e. Virtual Assistant!

vainparadise : Rebecka you make me LOL

sharnatlanta : See who is talking about the topics that appeal to you, and follow those people for interesting conversations

JKVirtualOffice : Finding business through Twitter is about joining the conversation. Make people interested in finding out what you do.

Rebecka Melson : I'm glad you think its funny... Lord knows how many followers I've lost. LOL

vainparadise : Yes when you put in Virtual Assistant you can also see all the other VAs promoting themselves

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : Ah Rebecka, it is just you and you know-- we can all relate to what you are cursing about--at one time or another!

sharnatlanta : http://www.twellow.com/ is another search site that is pretty cool

Rebecka Melson : I use twitter search for topics and then have it set up on RSS, so I can watch specific topics and find followers

sharnatlanta : LOL

leedrozak : But don't make it all about promotion of you business make it about the knowledge and tips you can give

Virtually Assisting You : Rebecka it's you! and I think we all look forward to it!

JKVirtualOffice : I agree with you Lee.

sharnatlanta : Rebecka, that is an excellent idea. It's great to use RSS for blog topic ideas too.

JKVirtualOffice : I know some VA's will do a search to see if any one has tweet abt needing a VA and then they will go follow that person & message them.

JKVirtualOffice : Personally, I don't recommend this approach.

PorterWood : How do you put your own background as well... the background?

gris133 : is there a desktop version that updates "live"?

JKVirtualOffice : Twellow.com is a good site for finding people to follow either by location or by category.

vainparadise : I agree as well. VAs are business owners and some respond in a manner that doesn't reflect so well on the industry

Rebecka Melson : Yea, I don't recommend following people just to sales pitch them

JKVirtualOffice : I recommend going into to Twellow and "claiming" your profile.

sharnatlanta : There are Windows (or Mac) apps that will update. Twhirl, Tweetdeck, a firefox extension, etc

Virtually Assisting You : I agree Kimberly! I dont think you should try to sell your self or your services

vainparadise : You can take a screen shot of your website background and upload that

leedrozak : I am now talking with a prospect just because we twitted about my home remodel and he is promoting green building products

JKVirtualOffice : You can update your Twellow profile with more info about you and I know of at least one person who found me from there based on what I put in my profile.

sharnatlanta : The Twitter API hits an overload every so often so there will be pauses when using apps, but it's handier than the web

vainparadise : Or you can design one in CS3, PowerPoint a few other programs

Rebecka Melson : I need to check Twellow out more in depth

sharnatlanta : You can also view on a phone (blackberry - TwitterBerry, iphone, Tweetie)

sharnatlanta : Um, do I sound like a Twitter addict?

leedrozak : What did you use Dawn? For your background

vainparadise : No just very informed

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : Tweetie is a great App for iPhone or Ipod Touch

vainparadise : Started w/Gimp refined w/CS3

JKVirtualOffice : Thanks for chiming on the iphone/touch app. Darlene.

vainparadise : You can find a lot great info to post on Twitter here http://alltop.com/

JKVirtualOffice : another place to post your Twitter ID and profile info is in www.justtweetit.com

vainparadise : Also great site to keep yourself updated on a lot of the Apps avail for Twitter

lanelt : I found a local guy on twellow and started following him. Replied to something random he tweeted about and a few replies later he found me on a networking group we both belong to and "friended" me. Two days later he invited me to a networking meeting he leads here in town.

661VA : Great I will have to add the link to my iPhone. Thanks for that info!

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : I check Twitter every morning from my iPod on Tweetie..love it.

JKVirtualOffice : They have a special section just for Virtual Assistants.

JKVirtualOffice : That's awesome Lanel~

sharnatlanta : me too... I check Tweetie on my iPod Touch first thing!

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : Wow, that is great Lanel.

MrsAn : Wow Lanelt how exciting!

JKVirtualOffice : I totally agree, Dawn. Not only for yourself, but if you will be helping your clients with Twitter.

MrsAn : I seem to get all the aussies.....which I just imagine them talking and....I'm sold!

vainparadise : Yes I update a few clients accounts so I find a lot of info there

JKVirtualOffice : I also recommend checking out and using your Twitwall and Twitpic. People love pictures!

lanelt : I think it's important to engage people. This guy and I started chatting because he was annoyed with someone trying to SELL him something. Most people are looking to get to know you. If you try to sell they'll block you fast.

vainparadise : Great Lanel!

JKVirtualOffice : Lanel, that's another great point.

Rebecka Melson : I didn't know I had a twitwall LOL

JKVirtualOffice : Which reminds me...don't use autobots!

Virtually Assisting You : I think how you interact with other people on twitter will help get you potential clients/business.

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : That is my problem .. I am not good at engaging people in conversation.

vainparadise : YES no auto DM's

MLCBusines : I want to thank you all for all the great links.

SupportMyOffice : I can't believe I'm late

JKVirtualOffice : everyone has a Twitwall and it's a great addition. I use it for several of my client's accounts.

vainparadise : Sure you are Darlene

SupportMyOffice : I really thought this started at 8pm my time

661VA : Interaction is very important, especially since it is not face to face.

Virtually Assisting You : You are too Darlene...

Rebecka Melson : I had to turn off my DM notifications because of all the stupid auto DM's

leedrozak : Think of it like chatting with someone you meet at a networking meeting, you don't immediately begin selling youself, you get to know THEM too

JKVirtualOffice : If you find an app that allows you to Auto Direct Message (aka "DM") or auto follow or auto reply...DO NOT use them.

lanelt : Darlene just respond...if someone asks what you're doing, answer (even if you're craving CHOCOLATE) LOL

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : Well, yeah with the people I know. Not with strangers!

sharnatlanta : I second the 'no auto-DMs'.. !!

JKVirtualOffice : Darlene, I interact with you on Twitter almost daily. You are one of the best.

Your Virtual Wizard : Rebecka - I turned that off too.

lanelt : Last night I posted that my 5 y/o nephew was arguing with me on how to spell "who are you" and had three random people reply and engage me in conversation

Rebecka Melson : i just checked to see what the twitwall was, of course, it's a blog

JKVirtualOffice : Don't think of them as strangers. If they are following you, they are interested in you.

JKVirtualOffice : Unless they are spammers, of course.

JKVirtualOffice : Rebecka, it's sort of a blog. You can post pics & video there too!

vainparadise : I posted a Home Work HELP today and got a ton of responses and RT's

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : Good point Kimberly...thank you.

Virtually Assisting You : I 2nd it as well. I hate auto -DM's and I will not engage in convo w/ you. lol

lanelt : I often look at the # of people they are following. That helps me determine if I think they want to get to know me or just have a high follow #

SupportMyOffice : That was a very challenging question vainparadise

JKVirtualOffice : I also recommend checking out who you follow back.

sharnatlanta : As far as Twitwall goes... be aware you are giving them your Twitter ID and password...

lanelt : yes, check out who you follow back...I used to follow back everyone BIG mistake

MLCBusines : I always check out who I follow back.

MrsAn : I also like to look at who I am following.....and who they are following. You can find some interesting people that way

JKVirtualOffice : Sharnatlanta, that's true. But I've interacted with the person who runs that site and it's quite legit.

661VA : What do you mean by follow back?

Virtually Assisting You : Yes. Kristina that is true. Good point

JKVirtualOffice : 661VA, when someone follows you, you have the option to follow them back or not.

MaryH : @lisap I think you should follow anyone you're interested in. I follow all kinds of different people.

leedrozak : Great chatting but winds are picking up something fierce here so I am going to end now

JKVirtualOffice : lisap, I don't think so. You can follow whoever you are interested in.

MaryH : I don't judge others on who they're following - everyone's different and connects with different types of people.

sharnatlanta : You could also use a section of your own blog as a Twitter wall and keep your Twitter password safe Especially if you use WordPress and have the ability to "hide" a page

Virtually Assisting You : lisap - I agree with Mary

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : When should you use the Block feature? For known spammers or another reason?

JKVirtualOffice : I follow almost every VA that follows me just because I want to interact with, not just for business.

JKVirtualOffice : I use Block for spammers or really, really offensive people.

Rebecka Melson : I just block the spammers

MaryH : I use the block feature mostly for spammers

Jocarole : How do you block the spammers?

sharnatlanta : I like following and talking with other VAs too. It's a great way to get to know you guys!

vainparadise : Lisa you never know who might be a potential client so if you like their Tweets follow them

JKVirtualOffice : @Jocarole, when you go to follow someone, there is a link to click on "block"

JKVirtualOffice : You can also go directly to their profile and right under the message link, is the block link.

vainparadise : I don't just autofollow everyone who follows me I like to read some of their tweets before I follow them back

JKVirtualOffice : A good way to find people to follow is to find someone you like following and see who they are following.

JKVirtualOffice : LinkedIn also has a good Twitter group where you can find people to follow.

Virtually Assisting You : there's alot of VA's that are constantly tweeting ads that say "Use my services - with a link to their site" - I give u 2 chances then I unfollow you if I see it again.

lanelt : also, when someone retweets something look at what else that person has tweeted about

Rebecka Melson : I've found a lot of interesting people that way Kimberly

MLCBusines : I can honestly say I enjoy following the VA's that I follow.

JKVirtualOffice : Another good idea that I learned from Mari Smith, is to when you post a comment on a blog, also include your Twitter ID.

MLCBusines : Have talked to a few and enjoyed the conversations.

Virtually Assisting You : i think it makes the VA industry look like were begging for work.

Jocarole : Thanks !

JKVirtualOffice : Good advice, Lanel.

MLCBusines : JK - Good Idea!

Japhylis : I never knew about the retweet. i always see people doign it. I will start tomorrow.

JKVirtualOffice : I agree with you Kena.

JKVirtualOffice : constantly tweeting your services and your website link is spammy and annoying.

lanelt : I also get annoyed when someone ONLY retweets things other people have said or if they only post links to things they find online. I want to know about YOU.

Your Virtual Wizard : I followed Mari Smith on setting up the facebook fan page (another chat). I'm thinking of including twitter ID in my signature too. Good one, Kim.

lanelt : retweeting is good but don't ONLY retweet

PamH53 : In any given day, how much time do you devote to Twitter, finding people, etc.?

JKVirtualOffice : And keep in mind, the more people you follow the harder it can get to keep track of the conversation.

MrsAn : ah ha...can you link twitter to blogger for example?

SupportMyOffice : There is a real estate pro that posted like 8 times today about helping people avoid foreclosure.

Olinda Services : I am on Twitter but should we share the basics of how to get started?

Japhylis : yea, i know that. trust me i got enough to say with my crazy lfe.

JKVirtualOffice : I incude my twitter ID in my signature.

JKVirtualOffice : I used to be on Twitter quite a bit each day. But lately I've been so busy, I really only get to my account about an hour a day.

MrsAn : sorry....my scroll is freaking out. That was in the wrong spot

lanelt : I usually have tweetdeck up all day but only look at it when I feel like it or if someone replies to me.

JKVirtualOffice : However, I'm also on Twitter doing management of client accounts quite a bit.

Jocarole : An hour a day seems like a lot to me ?

Japhylis : i'm on about an hour a day too

JKVirtualOffice : Lisa, that's a great idea...what would you recommend as a "starter" tip?

sharnatlanta : I usually have Tweetdeck up all day too. I glance at it throughout the day to just stay in the loop of things.

Virtually Assisting You : Pam - I'm a lil addicted to twitter, but I keep it open all day and most of the night

lanelt : an hour straight a day would be boring (to me)

Rebecka Melson : same here Kimberly, I don't usually have time to get on until late in the evening right now, but I still like to check and see what new topics are running

JKVirtualOffice : I'm with Lanel, I often check my @replies and Direct messages throughout the day even if I'm not actively tweeting.

vainparadise : I am the same as you Kimberly, also though I have clients Tweeting me or DMing me so while I log on to ck it I also try to update as well

Virtually Assisting You : there is a few other's here that way too! go ahead and tel her M-M-ary. lol

Olinda Services : We have already mentioned using a business name or real name so people can find you.

JKVirtualOffice : I'm like you Rebecka, I usually only get to really "Tweet" in the evening.

Olinda Services : I know I didn't understand how to find other people when I started.

MLCBusines : I usually keep Twhirl on all day to keep up with conversations.

MaryH : lol, Kena, what did I miss?

lanelt : I think my biggest startertip would be to just follow people. I think if you follow a # of people and aren't afraid to respond if they say something interesting you'll get into the whole thing quickly

lisap : what is twhirl

Olinda Services : For people just getting started they are probably not going to load the gadgets until they get comfortable with the platform.

JKVirtualOffice : That's a great tip, Lanel.

D_Victoria_Virtual_Assistance : Unfortunatley, I tend to be a Saturday morning Tweeter (not as many people around to talk to!)

MrsAn : It really takes on a mind of it's own. I know I started with just following my sister and her business, then next thing I new 17 people were following me.

Olinda Services : I have started looking up people as I read their blogs or even while we have been chatting I have added around 10. I'm watching you! LOL

MaryH : twhirl is another platform to organize your tweets, like tweetdeck

JKVirtualOffice : I also recommend learning the "Twitter" lingo early on. RT=Retweet, DM = Direct Message...what else?

Rebecka Melson : I did searches to find people when I started out

661VA : Do you find that it takes a lot of your time to keep up with Twitter?

Rebecka Melson : I searched my state, my industry (bookkeeping/taxes) and other random things

lanelt : LOL Sometimes if feel like I'm stalking people when I find them and start following them everywhere LOL

sharnatlanta : It's kind of fun to Twitter Surf too (my term.. lol). i.e. start with someone you know or find interesting, then look through the folks THEY follow, and so on. It's kind of neat to do that on occasion.

JKVirtualOffice : Darlene, you just need to follow more people who are weekend tweeters. I find I can waste hours tweeting on a Saturday or Sunday.

Rebecka Melson : @661VA It can if you let it, that's why I don't use apps like tweetdeck or twhirl during the day

sharnatlanta : @lanelt nah.. I think that's expected these days. With Twitter, Facebook, and 30 some other SM apps!!

lanelt : does it take up time: it can, if you let it. If you just read it periodically then it doesn't have to

JKVirtualOffice : That's a great thing to do Sharnatlanta to find interesting ppl to follow.

MaryH : Kimberly I find I can waste hours tweeting any day, LOL

lanelt : it may be expected but it can still feel like you're stalking LOL

JKVirtualOffice : What other burning questions do you all have?

lisap : Is this really a good way to build your biz?

lanelt : anytime you're building relationships it's a good way to build your business

Your Virtual Wizard : The favorites tab...is this just to tag a favorite tweet someone posted?

MaryH : lisa, I think it is, and if nothing else, it expands your network in the event that you might need something in the future

JKVirtualOffice : Absolutely. I had someone I got to know on Twitter contact me last week & she wanted to refer some of her clients to me.

lanelt : but, it takes time and you have to want to put sometime in to building the relationship. Signing up for twitter and following people isn't going to make your phone start ringing

Jocarole : Is Twitter a business social site and a personal site?

MaryH : you get out of it what you put into it

sharnatlanta : re Favs tab, yes, it "bookmarks" tweets that you mark

JKVirtualOffice : She referred someone this week and from that one referral, I've signed 4 new clients in 2 days.

Olinda Services : It is just like networking in your community. Only this is your virtual community.

Rebecka Melson : I think its important to be active online especially on all of the popular forums, I have had clients tell me the chose me because they "saw me everywhere"

lanelt : it started out as personal but I really see it as a business personal. I think the successful people are the ones that blend the personal with their business

Rebecka Melson : it makes them feel more comfortable knowing you are visible

Your Virtual Wizard : I can tell you that once I created a twitter site, it is my #2 click-thru to my website. If anything at all, it gets peeps to my site.

Olinda Services : I think it is both. But I have found that my personal & business life intwine in my community. Friends know what I can do and ask me to help. They pass on my work to someone, etc.

Your Virtual Wizard : And then more people signed up for my newsletter that hasn't been written yet!

JKVirtualOffice : @virtualwizard...it is a great way to get click throughs to your website.

Jocarole : I guess if people see you all over they start feeling like they know you

Jocarole : I think the more sites you are on the better

JKVirtualOffice : @Jocarole...that's exactly it.

JKVirtualOffice : They also get to see how you present yourself and to get to know a bit of your personality.

Monique : my official statement on twitter "I Love It"!

Rebecka Melson : I think they get to know me pretty well.. lol but I don't hide my personality, although I may tame it a little bit

JKVirtualOffice : A great blog to subscribe to for Twitter tips is: http://www.twitip.com/
