Default Advice Needed on Facebook Security Settings for Client-VA Use
Hello,

I am working in a client's Facebook (fan) page adding a commerce application.

Ordinarily, I just log in using the client's email and pw with no problem but this account doesn't recognize my computer and therefore is asking me to verify who I am.

A screen came up asking me to check off the identification of who the folks were in my client's photos and of course I do not know that information. So I wasn't able to access her FB account.

Is there a setting in the client's account that she needs to change in order to allow me to work in her FB account? I checked around my own pages but didn't see any specific settings.

Thanks,

Janine

Whoa. That's a new one. Be interesting to know what you find out. Yes, I would guess she needs to name you as admin, maybe? Or maybe just loosen up her permissions? Sorry, I don't know for sure - but bet I run into the same problem soon if it's happening to you.

Thanks, Mary.

She's going to add me as an admin but it seems peculiar to me that I couldn't get into her personal page anyway. I think I need to be a friend/fan before I can be an admin.

I've been accessing another client's FB this week and nothing like this came up.

Mary,

It was an admin setting stopping me from getting in. She added me via email as an admin and I got in. I had no idea as it never happened before. But now I know.

Thanks for trailing along with me!

Janine

Hi Janine,
I've encountered this as well and believe that in part it's due to some of the new security settings that Facebook put into place recently. A real pain for those of us who help monitor and manage client's Facebook accounts. Once, in though you can set it to recognize your computer as one that is authorized for that account which is in the settings.

Another easy way to become an admin is to just Like the page and then the client can go in and find you in the list of fans and click Add as Admin.

It's nice now that there is essentially no more original Admin, which means that you can now set up client pages from your Facebook account, then add the client as an Admin and they can remove you later if or when you are no longer working together.

Kimberly, you are ever a mine of info. Such helpful responses to this and to my Q about Squidoo/HubPages.

I never thought of setting up client FB Pages via my account - very clever!

Thanks so much for your sage advice!

Kimberly,

Outstanding information, as usual!

I never thought of setting up FB pages through my account either! I know that will come in handy again.

Thanks again...

Janine

Mary, before they set the new setting this week that you can be removed as an Admin, it was not wise to create the client page on your own profile, as you would be "tied" to the page forever (was the way it was). Now since they have done that this week, it was liberating to go in and Remove myself as admin from about 30 some odd pages.
