Default accepting unknown people in FB Dilemma
I've been getting friend request in Facebook from people I don't know. I will usually look at their profile and try to decide if I would benefit any any way if I accept their invitation. My FB account is only for business purpose and I'm looking to network. If I don't see anything professional in their profile, I'm assuming that they're looking for friends/relationships at a personal level. Some of them might have a large group of friends but I don't like some of the personal content in it that will reflect on me. Am I correct to think this way? What do you guys do with friends request?

By the way, I'm at 18 fans on my FanPage
Getting close to my 25 fan objective!
Thanks everybody.

I have my FB profile for both...personal and professional. I teach my clients (in my opinion) that you need to share a little bit of your personal side with SOME of your business peeps, and because my FB is some personal, I don't accept friend requests from strangers (that I don't know cuz of of my friends are strange) and clients....and though it has only happened a few times....friends of clients. :-)

My facebook friends are a mixed bag: lots of family, lots of friends, realtors (potential clients), clients, and colleagues. I've been making really good use the new privacy settings and I suggest that anyone who is mixing business with pleasure do the same.

Most of my updates have to do with my insane 2 year old, and I don't hide those because it has brought up conversation between potentials and I, but I do hide some picture albums and my farmville updates.

That is great.......I just rather use my fan page for my clients or Potentials...But I do have other social media gurus...VA friends and others that are "friends". Just rather have clients on Twitter and linkedin.

Funny thing is my Facebook page was initially for business when I started it. I only started accepting friends on it about a year ago when someone found me!

I get odd requests all the time too and that is why I always check the mutual friends we have in common...if we have none I ignore

The people that are requesting to be my friends come from networking groups that I have joined. They're not on my Fanpage but on my personal profile. I separated the personal and business accounts but I still want quality people as business connections. Perhaps I'll have to make my profile private. I made my business profile public thinking that it would help to get leads but so far I'm getting a lot of young guys who are not showing much promise on the business perspective! I really don't mean to sound stuck up! But some of them are a little creepy looking!

Genevieve! That is something I do too!! If someone requests my friendship and they dont have ANY body in common with me, I wont add them. To be honest, I add mostly women who are friends with other friends.

I did get directions on the email lists and made one this morning for my farmville so that isnt broadcast-ed to every Tom, Dick and Harry...

I know exactly how you feel. But, a very wise Social Queen told me that the best way to market and obtain business is not in selling but connecting! That's what FB is all about. You will get business because they like YOU more that what you do.

Good luck!

Lots of good information. I'm like some of you in that if I'm not sure who the person is I won't add them just so I can have friends. I'm a little more particular.
