For many of us, though, isn't it true that our personal lives are not threatening to our professional reputations? I think the personal/professional issue is a very interesting one, but it seems like ultimately we want to work with people who are compatible with us personally, and we don't have much to hide about our personal lives, at least in terms on what we might put on a Facebook page .... Do you follow my drift here? Seems like we should go ahead and be honest and share ourselves, and find kindred spirits, and do business with them, as well as make friends.

I agree with this to an extent. I mean, my mother has me on facebook, so anything I can tell her, I feel comfortable telling anyone, basically. My friends don't make embarrassing wall posts, there's no embarrassing pictures of me and all is well and good.
I just think, though, that personally I like to know and control how much and what people know about me. I'm a fairly reserved person and it takes a while for me to become comfortable with people enough to tell them all of my many, many quirks.
