Default Which state should I start Business in?
I want to start a virtual assistant business, but I live in MS right now and plan to move back to TX in a few months. Which state should I form my business in (apply for business name, tax id, and so On)?

There can be some expense and definitely some paperwork in moving a business registration from one state to another. When I wanted to register my company I was living somewhere with plans to move, like you. I just waited and registered in the new state.

Turns out we are moving *again* now to another state anyway (two and a half years later) so I get to go through moving the biz as well - should be a good learning experience!

Hi,
I would wait and register in TX. I say this because I also had to move states AFTER I had been in operation for a while, but did not know I was moving here. My business name was taken here in GA so I have to alter it slightly to register it or pay more to register as a foreign company and leave the registration listed in my old state.

While you are waiting, work on the other development tasks for your business:

*Choose a good name
*Search the TX Secretary of State to make sure it's not already taken
*Get your website's domain name reserved
*Plan your business goals

Also remember, you can start working now and be paid under your personal name as a contractor. The only down side to this is that just as applying for a job, you would have to disclose your SSN to "clients" for tax purposes.
