Just got my EIN!
Ijust wanted to share for those of you contemplating getting one. It was easy fast and free! I applied online and got it right away with a certified IRS letter for my records! Knowing how slow the government can be I can't believe I got everything so quick! It won't show up in the database for about two weeks so you can't pay taxes right after applying. Just thought I'd share!

Congrats! I have recently had to apply for an EIN for my boss and his wife. I was impressed that it was so fast and easy to do. I also like that anyone who owns a business can get one for tax purposes.

Congrats, I'm so happy for you. I am still waiting for mine, I went through LegalZoom so it should be processed any day now.

Did you have to pay for that? I got it done through the IRS website for free. It asks you a series of questions and then you fill out the application and that's it. You get the EIN within a few seconds to a few minutes.

In a way, yes, it was a part of the DBA package I ordered.

I did too! I got mine today. Very excited indeed. I also agree that it was a breeze and yes, free.

Hello everyone, I have an update. After looking at my package I found that I was indeed paying for my EIN. I informed them (LegalZoom) that I wanted my ($79) refunded because it was free on the IRS website and asked why they charged so much money they told me that that was their fee for processing. They refunded my money but I still received my EIN anyway. Thanks for the info it saved me $79.

Anytime you use a service they are going to charge a processing fee. The standard legal zoom package is $249 PLUS the Federal/State filing fees. The $249 is just their processing fee. Most States have online filing now, you can go directly to their website and file your documents without any additional fees.

The legal zoom package does provide your Operating Agreement as well, but they just use a template. You can find free templates online you can fill in yourself at places like docstoc.com or some of the free legal doc sites.

I think it just depends on whether you are comfortable filing the documents yourself or would rather have the assistance. To some people the fee is well worth it. I personally wouldn't use one but I've had years of experience filing these types of documents and am comfortable with the process.
