Default EINs and LLCs
Good morning all,

After reading several posts about LLCs, I think this is the best choice for me. After sharing the info with my husband we discussed forming a LLC that we could put both his trucking business and my VA business under. I just am confused about a couple of things. I believe from what I have read that the LLC would get a separate EIN. Would my husband retain his EIN for his trucking business that will be a dba under the LLC and I would get a separate EIN for my VA business? Thanks for your help with this.

Hi I'm not an expert on taxes by any means, but I would recommend checking with your state regarding how many DBAs you can have under one entity because the small business regulations will vary from state to state. Try your Secretary of State's website or call them if you can't find the answer there.

The EIN is your federal tax ID number and assuming that your state allows for multiple DBAs you would need a separate EIN for each of the DBAs.

I hope that helps point you in the right direction! Hopefully someone who runs a similar business structure will chime in here as well

Thanks Tess. I am looking at my Secretary of State's website and I have not found the answer yet.

Sometimes it's easier to call - what state are you in? I've gotten pretty good at tracking down info like this... I'll see if I can help in the meantime

I would be curious what the answer is. I'm in North Carolina as well and have two DBA's under one LLC. I had gone to the local business center, and they said there was no limit to DBAs under one LLC.
