Default Do you do your own taxes?
Before starting my business this year I've always down our taxes, they were very simple, add income, deduct deductions and tada. Now I'm considering hiring a professional to do our taxes since they've become more complicated.

Do you do your own taxes, or do you hire a pro?

TIA

I used to do my own. Last year I calc'd mine through Turbo Tax and then had a pro do it (best tax attny firm in town - only cost me $85!). They got me $320 more than I would have received through TT. A caveat, though, I'm a llc so the VA biz income is
'pass-through' as personal and we just added some stocks/bonds to the mix last year.

Stacey,

I do my own taxes however I was a bookkeeper and tax preparer by trade in my past life. I also have a degree in accounting so I continue keep up on information and therefore feel comfortable doing my own. I do have a CPA in the family so they are reviewed before I send them.

Thanks ladies, I think we're going to have them done.

I'm just not comfortable with the consequences of me messing it up

I have mine done by a professional. I just don't want to take any risk of missing something if I do them myself.

My hubby and I used to do our own personal taxes. Then this year we decided to hand it over to a professional and I ended up getting money back when I thought I would owe!
I consulted with the same accountant, during the research phase of my business so he will defnitely be doing my taxes again next year which will include my business income/expenses as well. I definitely want to make sure I'm doing things properly, 'cos it's the last thing I want to mess up on!

Hi:

I use an accountant for my taxes. I send her e-mails with questions. She just does the taxes for the year for my various businesses and answers my questions.

Since I am a Virtual Assistant I hired a Virtual Assistant in India to post my daily stuff into Quick Books. My accountant wanted $75 a month which was way too high for me. Manny (an accountant with a Masters) did it for me for $120 for the whole year. If you are interested I will send you his name and e-mail.

Good luck,

Penelope

I did my own the first year - after that I hired a CPA to handle them for me. I do try to be aware of what goes into the figures, etc. so I can be as informed as possible but when it comes to deductions, etc. I leave it to the pros!

Hi:

I have used an accountant for years and it saves me a lot. I did have a problem when she wanted to charge me $75 a month to post my limited items to Quick Books. Too high! I found a terrific accountant with a masters. He is a Virtual Assistant in India with a Masters in Accounting and very experienced in Quick Books, and did it all for $10 a month - it was 12 months so I paid him $120. Glad to share his name and number.
